I see the argument here that Kuminga is a step below the other 4. If we don’t get Cade, I want Green... I’d find a way to be sold on Mobley or Suggs but Cade/Green are my 1/2 pretty easily.

I’m not saying culture change isn’t important. I’m saying you can’t have a winning culture in the absence of winning and you can’t win without talent. Moral victories by games being played by G-leaguers, rookies, and bench players in starting roles vs. teams tanking or teams resting multiple starters aren’t going to improve the culture, and potentially might cost us a shot at a top talent who could help to establish the winning culture that you’re wanting. Regardless, this current team IS going out and scraping to compete and has shown a fighting spirit even whilst being outclassed talent-wise most nights. A loss (or a win for that matter) in game 72 of a lost season isn’t going to have any impact on the culture of this team moving forward

Anthony with 6 turnovers to 2 assists while chucking up 25 shots. We’ve seen a pattern developing towards the end of this season where he facilitated more and more poorly. Given that he’s supposed to be a point guard it’s definitely something to be concerned about. It’s the kind of negative development I worry about when the team stops caring about winning and everyone focuses on their own stats.

Now all we need is OKC to win!

Nothing like watching your team **** themselves out of a top draft pick. It’s so great being a Magic fan

I can't wait until this thread can get back to its intended purpose which is the discussion of draft prospects.

Yeah my preference is Cade, Green, Suggs, Mobley in that order. I think Suggs or Mobley would feel like a consolation prize for me personally.

I’m not sure you do - there are decent arguments for either Suggs or Green to be taken #2. Personally I think I would go for Green, and grab Giddey with the Chicago pick.

The rest of us are thinking/hoping we are getting TWO good ones to build around!

Not a bad little loss there at all, like Cole's scoring prowess, who gives if he has a couple of bad facilitator games. Did he show something? Damn right he did. I'm going to box score watch the OKC game instead of working lol.

Arguments or no arguments, think this management will get the decisions right for the vast majority that come up and so far they have done what a FO should do in seeing what it has without making a rash decision and treating its best players well enough and when trading them getting reasonable enough value. The worst decision appears to have been picking Mo Bamba and given he has the tools to succeed at a very high level I don't think their entire tenure here needs to be pilloried for that. Mo has let Mo down. If we get a shot here after tonight to pick up an elite talent in this draft, all the other stuff will wash away as that will be the catalyst for change. It changes the mode. It elevates others even if it takes time. Provides foundation. We are where we are, lets just all keep our fingers crossed for some good luck for a change.

Time to put this nightmare season to rest. Thanks to all for keeping activity up and keeping it civil around here, it’s been a tough go at it and I appreciate everybody having the ability to not take it out on each other. Let’s end this one off with a fun game tonight and then get out the neuralyzer and wipe this entire season from the memory banks. Cheers yall

Good post. I mean we can all agree that we’ve been really bad and that the previous rebuild was a complete and utter failure. I’m just curious how we are supposed to improve if we don’t do it through the draft, at least in the short-term? No one is banging down the door to play here and that won’t change until we are at least mildly competitive and have the cap space to make a true splash in FA.

If by new you mean 46 years old and life-long Magic fan. Family season ticket holders from inaugural season through 2005 and have probably missed 20 games since the franchises inception, then yeah...I’m new For the record, trading AA for Fournier didn’t make us worse. Neither did trading JJ once we lost Dwight but great examples

You can engage in all the absurd semantics you want. Three seasons <25 wins is tanking by any measurement, whether it helps your argument or not.

Are you under the impression that Rob Hennigan is still out GM?
  19. 1 point
No. No you did not. You made excuses for why they didn't. I don't care about excuses. You know what other teams have excuses? Teams that didn't tank. If I have to choose which team I'd rather have been watching, a team that tried and had to make excuses for why they didn't get it done, and one who sucked on purpose for years only to end up with the same results... I'll take a team who at least gives themselves a chance.

It's not even really an argument at this point. If your goal is to win championships, tanking as hard as you can for multiple seasons doesn't work. The last team to tank their way to a championship was San Antonio. And they tanked for one season. The last team to win a championship through a philosophy of long-term tanking was... nope, never happened. Maybe Philly will get it done some day soon. If they do, they will be the only NBA team to have the process actually work, despite at least ten teams trying it every year for the last two decades. OKC got three hall of fame MVP players in three consecutive drafts and didn't get it done. There just isn't a good argument to be made for a long-term tanking strategy if you want a championship. At least, not if you have any understanding of NBA history.

No worries. And I agree with that last point. And I think Clifford is the right coach to do that. His team's have consistently been low turnover, low fouling, solid defensive teams but this year has just been a train wreck in every possible way and I'm not sure we can hold that against any one person in particular.
  22. 1 point
Yeah, sorry about that, I didn't mean to cut that part to make it look like you don't address that, my intention was only to point out that the solution is simple... and that good habits need to be installed in every player of the roster, without exceptions.
  23. 1 point
OKC should be stripped of a draft pick. 1-22 since 20-27 and blatantly tanking is so bad for the league! It might not be the best for us but I am ready for either playoffs, play-in, and everyone else gets equal draft odds.

Yea haha All Stars who needs em am I right? (Also he's nothing like Vuc apart from they're both white European big men)

Talk is talk. Our actions were of a team that was throwing away seasons. Trading JJ, trading Aaron Aflalo, not re-signing Anderson, those were tanking moves. We traded solid veterans for unproven young guys that were not too picks. That is not really up for debate. Again, are you new to this team?
