Steve Kyler's latest on the Magic trade situation(link)

Something For Nothing: There has been a lot said this week about the Magic and their quest to add some size before the post season. The reality is the Magic are flawed. They are terribly flawed because without Tony Battie, the Magic cannot seem to stop anyone in the paint. Chalk it up to guys out of position or too much offense on the floor, but the Magic need some beef and they know it. Otis Smith is as coy as they come about making deals, he never shows his cards and almost no one knows what he's really thinking

He's wrong about the draft pick. We can trade our 08 pick if we chose to.

You can't trade consecutive FUTURE picks. However, if you trade a pick, then that draft occurs, you're then free to trade the following year's pick as well.

Why is losing JJ such a big problem according to Kyler? Because its within the division? I think Haslem will hurt the Heat more than JJ hurting us.

New Jersey, New York can't offer anything substantial, but Houston and Washington can.

Just goes to show that no one knows what Otis will do, not even Otis.

I think we open dialouge with both teams, if a Wilcox deal surfaces and we do not have to inhale Blounts horrible contract.....we are looking at the same player in Haslem and Wilcox. Both are attractive, but if we keep our talent (JJ) and minumize the $$ amount in not having bad contracts....Welcome Chris Wilcox!!!!!

In my eyes, J.J. is the key to this whole trade scenario. Kyler has told me privately that Otis values Redick especially in light of his teams pending free agents. It gives him leverage. But on the flip side J.J. is getting sick of sitting the bench.

There was a big article in today's Sentinel on Redick. Here is a little snipet of it:

quote:

"If Otis was ever like, 'All right, I'm going to trade you,' I know it would be hard to do during the season," Redick says. "I'll just see what happens this offseason. I expect to be here to the end of this season. I've come to that reality. But this offseason, we're going to have to start discussing things. They have the option to pick up my fourth year. Personally, I don't know why they would. The business side of it, my future will have to be discussed between me and Otis and Arn."

He adds, cryptically, "I'm looking at next year, and I see myself in the same situation if I'm in Orlando."

As you can see, Redick fully expects to be here come the end of the season.

If Otis would give the Heat Redick this deal with Haslem could get done in my opinion.

The plot thickens!(lol)

The next 10 days before the deadline is gonna be extremely interesting to see what Otis will do.

go after wilcox or collison before haslem..

especially if ti means not loosing JJ and future picks. And yes drunk on Mystery has it spot on, you can't trade consecutive FUTURE firsties.

Get rid of our expirings for wilcox or collison and ill be happy, plus that should open up more game time for one JJ and also meer

DOM, can you find a link to clarify about the 1st rounder?

While Wilcox can score and rebound, he has almost no jumpshot and his defense is below par. That is why Haslem is the first on the list.

Meanwhile if you read the rest of the article, Kyler says that Miller is almost a lock to be traded to Miami for J-Will or Davis. Here's an idea: Why not beat them to the punch and then trade Miller for Haslem and a piece??? Even if it somehow didn't work out, we'd have a very good 6th man in Miller.

I think I may completely avoid the boards for the next ten days. This is getting Redickulous.

All this buildup and anticipation and waiting is driving me bat**** crazy.

And there's still a chance nothing will get done. Nothing. Remember how we all though VC was going to be in Magic blue last year at this time? And nothing happened?

Well, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice.....

"This rule applies only to future first round picks. For example, if this is the 2005-06 season, then teams can trade their 2006 first round pick without regard to whether they had a 2005 pick, since their 2005 pick is no longer a future pick. But they can't trade away both their 2006 and 2007 picks, since both are future picks. Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years."
