The only thing this bloke could add some polish to is the cars at work!

Oakley played in one all-star game (1994). His career was marked by his aggressive defense, his tenaciousness and hustle around the basket, and his willingness to use force.

NO-O-O-O-O!!! Please, no Oakley! I didn't like him when he played with teams like the Knicks.

Oakley was all of the above, but he was also mean and had a temper.

A player can be aggressive and tenacious around the basket and not have a volatile temper. We don't need to have the type of team that instigates fights.

5 mil for season?, what????? nice joke.

I prefer other players over him.

I think things would be different now. He's probably in better conditioning than before. Before he knew he was going to retire and his career was on the downhill. Now he's working out with the goal in mind to prove that he can still run with the young guns in the NBA.

I agree with yall, no way would i pay him $5 mil a season, but for vet min or less, I say lets get him in here to show us what he's got. Besides, I think we need a "volatile" guy whos volatile on the court only. Not someone who will be volatile off the court like Vick. Someone who will make other PFs, who supposedly will have the advantage on us at the position, actually be scared of facing us based on who will be defending them (Oakley).

Umm....

No! He11 No! & F*** No!

If Oakley wants a $200,000 per year practice coaches position, then fine. We could even sign him to (2) 10 day contracts during the season if we have serious problems in the frontcourt.

At age 43, he isn't able to start with a single team in the NBA. He might be able to make the sqaud as the 15th roster spot that sits on the bench modeling suits, but that's it.

The man hasn't played an NBA game in 4 years. Anyone that thinks he can still play is dillusional.

I haven't heard Brian Skinner's name mentioned until this article. Is he a free agent?

That is perfect!

I don't think Oak understands that you can't manhandle players now. From what ESPN says his jumper doesn't look good either so the game has really passed him by. I would like him to teach our guys what it means to scrap for a win, I really wish we could pick him up as an assistant.

Oak want 2yr 10mill huh, in that case we shouldve went after Darko then. I doubt if they could offer him that much. Hes out of his damm mind asking for that much. I like his post game and his aggressive defense play, but i dont think hes worth that now. This just 1 friend looking out for another friend. If he wanna really help us out, become an assistant coach or something. He also thinks he can play 20-25 minutes per game, thats 20-25 minutes from our younger players that need to develop. But if hes in good shape and we needed a veteren, i would sign him but not for 10mill over 2 seasons and i wouldnt offer him20-25minutes per game. Unless he actually do good, then i ll give him more minutes.

If I wanted an over-the-hill PF, I would be talking to Sir Charles or Karl Malone, not someone like Oakley who was, at his peak, simply a solid player.

I'm older than any of them, and one thing I can tell you is that he won't be able to compete.

You often hear about players that are getting older that they are "losing a step".

Let me be more specific. The "step" that is lost is the first step. What you lose first, and to the greatest degree, is the ability to explode at the point of the brain recognizing the situation, basically reaction time.

At this level (the NBA), if you've lost your 1st step, the rest of the don't matter because it's too late.

Even "goons" have to be able to get to where they're trying to go.

How many of us would rather have a oak tree play for us rather than Charles Oakley?

If every NBA free agent was signed at this point, i'd say sign him in a heartbeat. There is just far too many names left to even consider signing someone who may break his back the minute he steps on the court again. Lets all be reasonable here.
