Is it time to go to JJ?

Vince has not played well the last couple of games, no question. But that is what happens with scorers. They tend to go in streaks. And the only way for them to get out of it is to keep trying to score. Vince is not the 1st guy to go 1-14. I do believe he still pulled down 7 rebounds and had 3 assists. He has been a solid rebounder from the SG position all season long, and Dwight needs that help on the boards. Vince will come out of this slump. He is still getting used to finding his exact role and how to share the ball with Shard and the rest. He will have to re-adjust again when Jameer returns. We are only 1/3 of the way through the season. We didn't get Vince for the regular season. We got him for the playoffs when we need a player that can create his own scoring opportunities when the defensive intensity picks up. Vince will be fine after he has had the full regular season to fit in with the rest of these guys. Having said that, it's great that JJ has become the type of player that he has rounded into. While playing Vince at SF isn't something I care for in many situations, it is nice to have the option to put that kind of fire-power on the floor with Dwight: Shard, VC, JJ and Jameer.

Is Dwight just another modern day athlete?

What have these boards come to? Are we actually resorting back to having well thought out and thought-provoking threads? Surely not. Great OP, Smack. Those that choose to build their fortune based on the establishment of a certain image create a risk factor directly proportionate to the degree to which they choose to adhere to that image. In some cases, it seems to me that some build images based on their moral standards, and become subject to failure simply based on their inability to live up to those standards. That's where I see Dwight. And a guy like Tebow, should he fall victim to similar slidings. In cases like Tiger and MJ, I don't believe that the image they have created has anything to do with how they truly feel about anything. They are simply establishing an image that will garner them the most endorsement opportunities. They really have no desire or intent in living within the boundries of that image. They only desire to keep it private so as not to taint their financial opportunities. These may be unfair/inaccurate generalizations, but I do think there are some differences in these types of situations. Okay, can we get back to having more threads about how Brandon Bass should be on the All-star team now?

    Anthony Randolph.

Golden State would never trade for Gortat because Don Nelson has made a career out of using the excuse that the only reason he never won anything is that he has never had a true big man whereever he went. He won't jeopardize losing that excuse. BTW, when he was in a position to obtain a big man, he drafted..... Shaun Bradley. But it's still everyone else's fault.

7 Games in, who's your 5th starter now?

We need a glue, does everything, smart player for that 5th spot, someone who isn't constantly looking for their own shot and can run the floor and play defense. Out of all the realistic options, Matt Barnes is the only one of those players who isn't looking for his shot on every catch. +1 I'd add, Pietrus is a close #2 imo. He doesn't seem to chuck as much when he starts. Last year I suggested Pietrus follow a 3-4 minute rule on putting up a shot when he enters the game. I'd like to re-submit that suggestion. LOL. I agree with Barnes being the pick. And, right now, SVG is going to make a point of rewarding those that work the hardest at the defensive end. And, right now, Barnes is the only one on the roster truly doing that. The ONLY one. Anderson would actually be my 2nd choice. Everyone says that moves Shard to 3, but I don't necessarily see it that way. The skills of the opposing 3 and 4 are going to be a factor in match-ups, so it doesn't really matter which one wears the label, but it will be predicated more on defense assignment than offensive scheme. I like MP, but I still don't feel like he can be trusted very often to play more than 15-20 minutes of intelligent basketball on a given night.

Dwight & Nelson will carry them. The Pistons need to learn tonight that their aura over this team is done. The Magic need to take them out, and take them out hard. Annihilate any resemblence to anything the Pistons could carry from the previous few years. So I would go ahead and start VC (assuming he can go), and blow these guys out early. Limit his minutes to about 20 so that he will still be fresh for tomorrow. Might even help him stretch it out a little before tomorrow's game. But I am more concerned about removing this Pistons-mindset than I am a single game against the Suns. As you say, hopefully MP will be back. When you play against a team like the Pistons, you need to be as stocked as possible because the games can get rugged, and foul troubles develop. The Pistons don't need to learn anything, its the Magic that need to take the monkey of their back. This ain't about the Pistons, its about the Magic. This is a very different Pistons team, it won't even be close. You are absolutely right, KLR. I want this type of win so that the Magic don't have this in their psyche anymore.

Of course we stick behind Dwight he's the franchise but why does he rip on Vince more than say how happy he is to have him on the team. "half man half retired" is FOR SURE an insult whether he was jokingn around or not. Dwight needs to grow up a bit mentally. Agreed- Dwight's maturity level leaves alot to be desired. Are you guys serious? Its a joke! The team was ripping on AJ all last season because of his age. If this team didn't joke with each other they wouldn't have the bond that they have. Gotta agree here. This is the spirit of this locker room. Dwight's light-hearted banter that he forces on the locker room is the perfect good cop / bad cop to SVG's intensity. If VC's ego is that sensitive, then we have problems. But it isn't, and the writer of the article is expressing a concern that I don't think exists. If anything, it will make VC even more determined to prove he can still play at an All-star level. SVG challenges you by screaming at you. Dwight challenges you by playfully using comments to motivate you to prove yourself. Both methods can be effective, and it's great that the locker room has the freedom and flexibility to deal with these extremes.

A comparison of Barnes and Pietrus is like trying to compare Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. Comparing Gortat and Howard is like comparing Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf. One is a legitimate comparison, and one is not. Okay, I admit it. I thought about going with the Jameer/Arroyo comparison again....

Orlando Magic Daily wants to talk about Vince(link)

What an incredible thread. All I've read for the last 2 months is how everyone cannot wait for camps to open so that we have something to talk about. So someone starts a thread to actually discuss game action, and he gets ripped for it? Then everyone twists it to make it sound like VC is being crucified in the OP. Geez, it was an observation of a single game. The 3-12 caught my eye right away too. But so did D12 going 9-17 from the FT line. And JJ going 0-4 from 3-pt land and getting 20 minutes. And the newcomers accounting for nearly 50% of our points. And Anderson getting a DNP-CD. But the article was about VC, it wasn't about the other things, so that's what was posted. Either that, or please ask the mods to establish a rule of when actual basketball action can be discussed on these boards, because it's just so much more fun talking about potential trades of JJ for Bosh, who we are going to sign to sit in a suit for 82 games next to Foyle. Those things are so much more intriguing.

Good point, but would be very unprofessional of GSW to let family ties to a third team interrupt business between the two teams. We're talking about the Nelson's here. There's not a professional bone in their collective bodies, particularly from the neck up.
