Stop. I'm trying to remain calm, and not expect too much of the guy. I'm trying not to imagine J.R. Smith with Kobe's work ethic or Klay Thompson with Kobe's attitude. I'm trying not to see Mike Miller's evil twin with a chip on his shoulder. I'm repeating to myself over and over the mantra: Rudy Fernandez, Swaggy P, O.J. Mayo... Rudy Fernandez, Swaggy P, O.J. Mayo.

Now the minute he comes out and drops thirty on somebody, I might go nuts... but for now, don't get me too excited.

Well we have nothing until summer league starts and BJ and all the other whiners troll the place if Mario, Elf or AG have a bad game.

I was jumping for joy last night until I realized that we selected the guy I wanted, and felt somewhat disappointed that Henny didn't throw me another curveball out of nowhere. I'm over it now and pumped for next season.

I really hope Mario can get over here and into a couple of Summer League games. I absolutely need to see this guy live, not in highlights and picked apart analysis tapes. Even in that lax summer-league environment, I want to get some sense, if just a summer-league sneak peak, of who he really is as a player.

I can understand BJ and those guys, to a degree. BJ can't let go of his Kentucky thing. My brother-in-law is a UK fan, and hyperbole is kinda their thing. The problem is they believe their own hyperbole. It's like mom-goggles, the way UK fans tend to look at their guys as prospects. As for the Henny hate, I suppose a lot of people haven't gotten over thinking originally that he'd gotten fleeced in the Dwight trade, then taking Dipo when most here seemed to want McLemore or Noel, then the Gordon pick came out of freaking nowhere. It's hard when your GM has you on the ropes trying to understand what he'll do and even at times what he's doing. With Otis, it seemed you just picked the most obvious move, no matter how flawed, and that was what to expect. Now we as fans actually have to think to keep up with what Henny is doing even a little bit. It's jarring at first, but I'm enjoying having a GM on my favorite team who actually seems to know more about basketball than I do (which is not always saying so much, other than that Otis was a moron who I still feel like knew nothing of how basketball actually works). But the trolls and whiners seem to want Otis, just an Otis who magically gets everything right. Basically they want the NBA to work like NBA 2K. It really just doesn't.

I really think Mario can be pretty good pretty quick. Not start-of-the-season quick, but I think by season's end he could be competing for ROY. People forget he has a leg up on most of these guys. He's been playing against mature ball-players for a while now. None of these other guys has ever played in a meaningful game against a team full of guys with high-level talent and the experience and coaching to understand and execute their roles.

I rated it a solid draft. We took BPA and addressed an important need. Don't sleep on Harvey either.

What would've rated this an "Amazing" draft is if we consolidated some of our assets ('Drew/Mo) and parlayed that into Bobby Portis. I was surprised he slipped and was praying we'd make a play for him. Since we played it safe and did what we did, and according to the grading scale in the poll, I say solid draft.

A

I clearly was excited as I do believe that Mario was the BPA.

Here's a question I've been theorizing in my head: if the magic had been at #2 or #3, do you think that the Magic would have shocked the world and picked Mario over Okafor or Porzingis? Were they locked in on him that much?

Well, I join the ranks of the solid draft voters! I truly believe that can/ will bump up to an A, when Mario is here, in uniform and can provide 1/2 of what he is projected to do at 20 years old!

Until then.... Good selection! silver_cup.gif

A+

It was a home run. I am a BIG MARIO supporter. I think we went with a player with high potential and a player that also addresses a need. Mario was 3rd on my board. He is the best shooter in the draft and probley the best scorer. If R. Lewis averaged 17-19 pt for us so can Mario receiving passes from Payton, Victor, and Vuch. He could be a bigger scorer.

Mario is going to make the team better because of spacing and a willingness to shoot every open shot. We lost a lot of games because of scoring and being out gunned from down town. Our bad offense lead to fast brakes and turnovers because the packaged lane.

Mario has the alpha male personality, so I think he can become an all star because of his offensive aggression. I feel that he will be a difference maker day one. He has been a pro since the age of 13.

P.S. I like Harvey. I think he will give us a nice shooting specialist. It is nice to have a big point that excel on defense, Payton can guard a teams best offensive player and cover Harvey lack of defense.

WE are becoming special. (in a good way... lol)

I would. Not sure if Hennigan would

I gave it an A. Not that I'm sure that Mario will become our star, but that it was time to take this chance. The A is for swinging for the fences when the situation called for it.

I give it a B+, only due to the uncertainty about Hezonja's buyout. Think that Skiles and his teammates will hold him accountable and make Mario a better defender, so no worries there. With drafting Harvey, this is our first draft in awhile we went exclusively after scorers.

If one of those guys fell to 5, I would have rated the draft a B, since BPA was left on the board. I really wanted Porzingas (also wanted Henzonja, so I'm cool with it), and I think he would be the right pick had he fallen. Since he didn't, I graded Magic an A.
