Thompson turned down 4 years and $52M before the season from the Cavs.

He is looking to get over paid big time and is not worth it.

Would you give the max to Thompson?

Good lord I hope not. He is an elite offensive rebounder but he literally does nothing else. He will get severely overpaid this off-season though.

The Cavaliers will have some tough decisions to make in the offseason. One of them will be whether they want to match a lucrative offer Thompson will undoubtedly get in free agency. He will be a restricted free agent and he’s going to get a deal that could start in the $15 million range.

The dilemma is the Cavaliers’ other frontline power forward, Kevin Love, could also opt out of his deal and become an unrestricted free agent. Despite having shoulder surgery, he could also ask for a max deal.

Can the Cavs afford two max players at the “4” spot? In their case, they need to. Letting either player walk could cause major repercussions.

If Cavs General Manager David Griffin finds a way to keep this team together, it could conceivably win two or three championships over the next few years. He can’t become frugal at this point, certainly not when they are minting money at The Q right now.

I can't imagine Cleveland paying the max to both Love and Thompson.
