Natmayo 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 Well lets hope for a better effort and a rebound from last nights debacle. But ive seen the last couple of games a tired team perhaps. Especially Dwight. I know 60 wins was a goal and its nice and all but maybe a more rested team for the playoffs would be beneficial. I believe we should limit some minutes a bit and give the guys a break to regain some strength and some mental focus. I think we win this game but close 105-

Bradspace 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 I want to go into the playoffs with momentum. I've never seen the "rest the starters" strategy work in any sport. Stumbling into the playoffs rusty will only earn this team a quick exit. There is more rest between games in the playoffs, and if we go in with all cylinders firing we may get a first round sweep which will probably give us more rest as we await our second round opponent than we would from half assing it down the stretch. Actually, there IS a sport that "resting the starters" is quite common and does work. It's called the NFL, when you have clinched your playoff spot and home field advantage, because it keeps your stars from getting hurt, which is a major concern in football. That being said, I realize that the NBA is a "softer" sport than pro football, but it really looks to me like our starters are tired. I'm not saying that we bench them, but maybe limit them to under 30 minutes. It would piss me off if I was at the game, but the playoffs are what it's all about. Bradspace 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 We'll have to agree to disagree, because I don't think it works in the NFL either. I understand the thought process behind it. You've got the top seed locked up, and you want to protect your stars from injury so you limit their snaps in the final games. It works, but then you have a by week before you face a team that has been fighting to stay in the playoff picture while yours has become rusty, and emotionally detached, because they take their playoff birth for granted. Once you reach the playoffs you've leveled the playing field by putting yourself at an automatic disadvantage.

There is big difference between the two sports. Football has a huge margin of days off compared to basketball and so the big mo isn't as big as a thing as it is in basketball. Plus the Magic starters have played like **** and need to prove that they are really ready for prime time.
