After I read the article and saw who wrote it the first thing I thought was that Washington must be pissed. I mean, I hope Gil takes care of his kids first and foremost. But, this doesn't deserve to be in the media and a washington post writer putting this out while Gilbert has done well in Orlando only serves himself. It's quite sad really that a journalist wants to benefit by writing about matters that should be behind closed doors.

Good stuff. I noticed it in games but I never had any numbers to go with my assumptions. I think the biggest thing he brings is that you have a legit starter and playmaker coming off the bench. It prevents us from having a let down with our bench in the game. Soul, I wasn't calling you out by any means. I was just pointing out that those stats shouldn't be used for player comparisons considering not every player has played in the same games. It's still interesting info, thanks for posting.

It's somewhat deceiving though. Prior to the trade we were losing games, so players already on our team will have lower +/-. I got it right though because I remember seeing a box score of a close game and he was +20 something. But I wouldn't use this to say Meer is terrible for the team.

I think no team can pay him more than the rookie scale, that's the part that isn't clear in the CBA.

That's true. I forgot he was in his last year. He'd be a free agent but I don't think he can be paid more than what the rookie scaled contract would have given. So we don't have to worry about being outbid. A CBA expert would know for sure, but that is what I've taken away from the CBA.

He really is a great athlete. If SVG can mold him defensively, I'd be all for him having a lot more minutes. As of now, he still makes a lot of young mistakes on the defensive side. But he could be a huge threat with his quickness on the offensive end slashing and cutting. A great change of pace to have on the bench if Ryan and Bass aren't doing well. Great game tonight for the young guy and I can't wait to see the size he puts on after a year bulking up with our team.

I guess. But those teams aren't going to have a shortage of wins regardless of their record against us. I think Atlanta benefited the most. We normally destroy them but now they have that one more win to help with playoff seeding.

Completely Agree. As far as legitimate wins go, the argument can be made that these games between contenders mean nothing until the playoffs. I tend to think it gives a decent perspective of the matchups between the teams. Considering Boston had a 15 game win streak and has the best record in the East, I'd call this win legit. Could it change in the playoffs; of course but not likely with our expected improvement from cohesion.

I've heard opposing fans count Dwight on a couple occasions. It was never called obviously, but it brought out the fact that he does take a long time. In one attempt, the crowd got to 15. I love Dwight, but he really should speed it up unless it's going to drop his percentage even further.

You have to love sore losers. That's like us losing a game and throwing out an excuse that has no bearing on a 7 game series. How he thinks that is beyond me. The team is drastically different and we got a close win at home playing mediocre ball today. I like our chances. The Howard quote is partially true but only because the refs don't call the same game against Boston that they do against the majority of other teams. It makes Dwight look terrible. They play physical but any physical play against them results in a flop/no call. Quite amazing actually. He can run his mouth all he wants and I'll keep looking at the final score from today and smile.

Just because arenas is playing "better" does not mean he will start. SVG will put the players in position to give this team the best chance to win. That, as of now, is having arenas off the bench and starting jameer.

In SVG's post game press conference last night he was quoted as saying something along the lines of: (paraphrasing)we have 4 guys and 3 starting spots, could it change? absolutely. But regardless of the lineup, each of those players is going to play ~30mpg. Gilbert can play multiple positions and I like his utility off the bench to play where our weak point is in that given night. (/paraphrase) Basically, everyone takes his "could it change? absolutely" line out of context. He's saying Gilbert could possibly start at the 1 or 2. But until SVG gets a solid grasp of this team, our starting lineup won't change. Gilbert gives us a spark off the bench and can play any of the guard positions if foul trouble or mismatches occurs. Regardless of starting, he's still going to put in starters minutes. There's really no point in playing up an issue when there isn't an issue to begin with. Like I said before, I don't see Jameer getting benched unless there is a drastic difference between the two.

Even if he leaves after this year? I don't think he will. We own his Bird Rights, so we can give him whatever he wants. Just bustin' your chops.

BMP is right. Nelson didn't come out until he was in foul trouble. I'm sure his "dehydration" played a role in him accumulating the fouls, but SVG didn't pull him til he got that foul. I'm not buying into the point guard controversy. Until there is a large difference between the two, I'd like Jameer to start. You'll see to much fallout by benching him. He's been one of the leaders of this team for years and the other players know that.

I'm feeling better and better about this team after every game. I hope that trend continues with tonight's game. If we can somehow get our shot back, we can win in a shootout. Otherwise our defense is going to need to be A LOT better than the Dallas game. Predictions: Dwight gets 20+ rebounds again. J-Rich shoots better than any other game he's played with us which isn't asking for much. Gilbert shows improvement but not enough for people to stop bashing him. We win a tight game by 4.

So do we not have a choice on EC? If another team comes in and offers more than the rookie scale, will we get screwed over?

Bird Right CBA Breakdown If this is correct then we can't overpay him even if we wanted to. The article relates to Bird Rights and when teams have a players' bird rights. Based on this, we can't pay EC more than what his contract scale would dictate if the option were picked up. I don't know what that means for what other teams can pay him.

If we tighten up defensively and limit some of the bad shots, we win this game. Considering we played one of the hottest teams in the league, that's a great improvement. This team is showing there's certainly potential for greatness. Let's get some practice and come back even stronger on Thursday. I'm more excited for our season now than I was pre-trade.
