    FIRE JACQUE VAUGHN THREAD

I wouldn't be able to handle a Mark Jackson hire. He's my least favorite basketball related person on the planet. That being said, I don't really have any suggestions beyond stating the obvious: hiring someone right now is a stupid idea. Any responsible management team would want the full array of candidates at their disposal. Most of those coaches are currently employed.

    Grantland preview

Reading over 6 pages dedicated to the value of Kyle O'Quinn brought back some neat memories. This place would never be the same if arguments over the importance of a 10th man ceased to exist. I like the guy - and there's always room on a team for a hardworking big - he's just not a difference maker in terms of being on the team or not.

Oladipo out indefinitely with facial fracture

Everyone is "injury prone" when it comes to getting elbowed in the face. With that being said, hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

I missed the game. How much of the outcome was based on Brooklyn being awful?

Do you guys actually watch preseason games in there entirety? It would be a minor miracle if I made it to the second half of one of these things. I almost put them on the same level as WNBA games, but I wouldn't want to disrespect players capable of making layups.

Fair enough. I was mainly objecting to the notion those players struggled early in their careers, but point taken. I have a hard time associating the expected growing pains of 18 year old superstars in the NBA with the very real struggles most NBA rookies experience. I know Mr.Assists was merely trying to stunt the expectations of a spectacular season from Oladipo, it's just that guys like Kobe and Lebron are playing in separate sandboxes from everyone else, and their struggles would be a resounding success for 99% of all the rookies to ever play in the league.

Pacific Rim is the only summer blockbuster I've loved since Star Trek (09) and The Dark Knight. I've been lukewarm on all the other big spectacle stuff. I wish more people like Guillermo Del Toro tackled these projects so some thematic vision could replace the dull blueprints all these things follow in look and feel. (I'm looking at you Zach Snyder.) Pacific Rim was a mash-up of a thousand other things, yet it still felt fresh because Del Toro put his own stamp on it.

Both Kobe and Lebron were All-Stars by their second year in the league. I don't think even the best projections would put Oladipo in that kind of company.

    2014 Draft Thread

People still argue about the pros vs. college stuff? Most of the upper echelon players in college basketball either never make it to the NBA, or they can't survive very long once they do. And those are the best players in college (there aren't many). Most college teams have rosters full of guys that don't play much ball after they graduate. The worst NBA team still has at least 10 professional players on it (let's say the 11th and 12th man shouldn't be there), that still leaves two times the amount of pro players that even the best college team will have. The NBA team wouldn't even have to try very hard to win rather easily. I remember when people were saying Alabama could give Jacksonville a run for their money. The thing is, they'd have to call the game off early, otherwise, they'd be putting the health of the college players at risk.

I like how Overeem kept walking straight into those high and front kicks with that nonchalant attitude of his. One would think he would've stopped doing that after Browne threw several of them, and after he got knocked out in his last fight for basically the same reason. And I hope Chael Sonnen gets more fights against strictly standup fighters, because I don't want him to go away.

The Official "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU PLAYING!!!?" Thread

Some of those are just the assholes who gets their rocks off by doing stuff like that, while the others are the ones who have completely blurred lost the line between real and fantasy in terms of role playing games. I was obsessed with Counter-Strike when I was 12-15, but I simply stopped playing when the game went into a direction I didn't care for. I can't even imagine how lost I'd have to be as a human being to even consider sending someone a death threat for making a game I didn't like.

ESPN's Forecast: 2013-14 Rookie of the Year

Why would Oladipo struggle to get minutes? He'll get the bulk of the playing time at 2, and when Jameer inevitably goes down, we'll probably run some lineups without a true PG out there, giving him even more minutes. Unless there's a plan in place to play Harris at 2 and Harkless at 3, I don't really see the logjam in Victor's case. He'd log the most minutes in my rotation.

I pulled Yeezus out of the regular rotation a lot sooner than his previous album, but I still think it's really great stuff.

I can't even imagine what it must feel like to be the one to stumble across your significant other hanging after a suicide. Poor guy. Poor family. Just a terrible thing all the way around.
  21. Shouldn't we have already assumed this? No one actually believed he came back out of the goodness of his heart, right? It was a tactic to avoid an unwanted destination, a ploy to keep his wish of being in Brooklyn alive.

I love how being told you're wrong about something amounts to cries of condescension on this board. It's probably not a good idea to give opinions in a public place if you're not willing to defend it from criticism.

    MLB 2013 Season

I probably muddled my point, but that was basically what I was trying to say. MLB is putting on this show to quell public outrage over PED use, an outrage that ultimately stems from an obsession over records and a weird sanctimonious attitude people have. I called it a charade because it amounts to nothing more than a circle of lies among the league, players and fans. The league lies about its handle on the situation. The players lie about how disgusted they are. The fans lie when they go all holier-than-thou over this stuff. Over the past two days, I've seen over a dozen current and past players comment on this. All of the comments amounted to how sad all of this is, and how it takes away from the guys that do it the right way and blah blah blah. That crap gets a huge roll eye from me, because I'd be willing to bet that at least one person who went on camera to say that, has or is taking steroids. I roll my eyes, but I understand how the environment forces these kinds of stances and reactions. It's just gross that this has turned into a giant soap opera for baseball and its fans, yet every other league and sport essentially gets a pass. Look, like you, I don't even care about PED use. I don't care for the simple fact that I'm not above pretending like I wouldn't do the same thing if I perceived it as the difference between me signing a multimillion dollar contract in the pros or not. I'm not opposed to the penalties, but the self-righteousness that surrounds these guys is beyond silly.
