NotByChoice 2 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 I would buy Garrity a beer if I could he did awesome last night and I usually can't stand whenever he plays. I just can't think of one bad thing he did out there. I was most impressed also by his endurance he never looked winded at all in almost 20 mins of play. You can definitely tell that he keeps himself ready even though every night the odds of him getting into the game are slim. Garrity does have a pretty high basketball IQ. I think he's a good passer not a playmaker but he moves the ball and usually makes the right decision. He understands the game of basketball if he can't make the inbound pass to Dwight he usually knows who has a better angle to do so.
Crazyhorse81 251 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Props to you Mr. Garrity! your shot seemed very smooth, there was no hesitation yet plenty of confidence in it. You threw what weight you had around down low, not afraid of contact. And i'm pretty sure you are one of the reasons we got back into this game, providing a much needed spark for our team in a dark period. I myself have blasted you on this very board quite often. And i am here to apologize because last night, you did what very little of the magic bench has been able to do: provide a spark to bring the team back from being down by double digits.... Pay me 5 million bucks per year for doing nothing and Ill give go in and bang with bill laimbeer in his prime. Ill clean the toilets after shaq has a sour stomach at burrito brothers buffet. What do you need..Ill do it. The guy is a stiff! One quarter does not a year make. No one said he was a star. We're acknowledging a significant contribution in a single game. Funny you say that he is doing nothing yet, without any pre-warning, he is thrust into a situation where he plays an entire quarter even though he hasn't played more than a couple minutes in succession since maybe the 1st week of the season (if then). He didn't look winded, or grabbing his shorts to catch a breather. That means that he has kept himself in game shape even though he has not been playing in games. Do you have any idea how difficult that is, or how much work he must devote during practices and on his own time to keep himself in that kind of shape? The guys that play every night get in shape by virtue of the games themselves. Pat does not have that luxury. So why not give him credit for a single solid performance instead of hating on him for the $5 million that you will never see. Jealousy and bitterness are ugly traits; don't get caught up. Very well said Charisma. This one's for you Pat!
Orl Native 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 I too must admit I loved Pat last night.! It started out by some rather mild smirks between my son and I when he got the call. But by the end of the half we were high fiving everyone in our area and almost had no voices left by the end of the game. Way to go Pat! You were awesome last night. What super hero do you guys think Pat should be? Green Hornet? maybe Batman as in Hackman. Sorry Pat you know you still hold the record for fouling out in the shortest time dont you? Anyway great game! Go Magic
CG 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Even before the preseason started, when I had the "Play Patty Pronto" thread running successfully, I was 100% certain that Patty would be the unsung heroe for the Magic, so time proved me right.... In short, I told you so! Patty, Patty, you're not fatty!

the notorious S.A.C. 89 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 You guys tooting the garrity horn about how we should appreciate how he is so ready....what about the other 20 games this year he wasnt. The ugly numbers (which are a re-run of the last 3 years of his readyness) indicate a power forward who averages more fouls than rebounds. A guy who has no defensive skills. A guy who, when he comes in to the game, the other team immediately goes against him for 4 straight "and ones". Here are the numbers for the other 20 games he wasn't ready and was just collecting his check for 07-08. You know the ones youve chosen to ignore. In 20 games we have 8 minutes per game/.356 fg %/.227% 3 pt/ 50% free throws/1.3 rpg/.4 apg/.19 spg/.05 bpg/.5 turnovers per game/1.1 fouls per game/1.8 points per game. Would someone like to tell me which one of these stats makes Pat be ready to play when called upon. In fact they look the earily the same last year...and the year before. If Pat were a team guy he would have realized his days have passed him long ago. But instead he wasnt tradeable because of a trade kicker and has been a drag on the club for years. In fact a .227% 3 point specialist IS in fact just picking up a check. Jealous...no...bitter...no...just realistic. Im just glad I wasnt the one who had to write his paycheck for the last 6 years! ~O~ 565 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks Pat. I think Pat is the all time leader in what.....dressed out for games and having a DNP-CD at the same time.

I'd say you are creating a strong arguement for why he has only played in 20 games out of 60 something but I don't think his poor stats are an indication of the guy sitting around eating Yodels and Twinkies instead of being ready to give max effort to help his team. Were his stats that amazing last night? No stats being ignored here, I'm well aware of why he doesn't get playing time and I doubt you will find anything in any of my posts suggesting that he get more PT. When did he sign that extension? July 2002 unless I am mistaken when he was coming off averaging 11pts and shooting 42% from behind the line, the next season about the same 10.7 and 39%. Was he over paid? Sure, but he wasn't signed to that contract based on the numbers you are providing. 22% is a reflection of a guy that comes in for a few mins and maybe takes 1 shot a game (22 attempts in 21 games played). "If Pat were a team guy he would have realized his days have passed him long ago. But instead he wasnt tradeable because of a trade kicker and has been a drag on the club for years." So he should have torn up his contract? The guy has always played to the best of his capability, hurt or not. You can argue all you want whether or not he is worthy of a roster spot, as I said before that isn't the intention of this thread.
