2014 Draft Thread

I find it funny when some people hold it against a prospect for playing against "no competition". Was the same argument being said when teams were scouting and drafting high school players? Talent is talent and I trust Rob & Co's evaluation of whomever after our private workouts.

There has been smoke around Exum and the Magic for some time now. If my memory serves me correctly, Ford said the Magic loved Oladipo, too.

They hold the #6 pick in the draft. If purely draft picks they could send their pick this year, plus their 2016 first round draft pick (2015 first round is going to Phoenix, 2017 to Orlando).

In terms of players they are a bit thin. They could throw Nick Young our way if he's under contract, he played well as a sixth man for them this season. Kendall Marshall did ok in spurts at PG, decent passer, not a got much offense. I think they also have Robert Sacre under contract, but he's not much to brag about.

For us to move up I suppose Afflalo and #12 for #6 and Nick Young could be a fair deal, especially if their pick lands higher and gives us the chance of another top talent.

I don't think they can trade their 2016 first round pick - I think you can only trade 1st round picks every other year, that is why we have a 2017 to begin with.

Also, they are already over both the salary cap and the luxury tax line - they can't fit Afflalo's salary without trading comparable salary.

Agreed. I didn't expect our front office to have a leak, but last year, the hype was Smart before he returned to school. Then shortly after, the media tried to build up hype by saying McLemore & Burke were high on our list, with Oladipo, but I think we all knew it was going to be Victor. Ford knows what we want.

I personally think Exum is on the same tier as Wiggins & Parker, and it'll all come down to the workouts. And if all things are equal, we integrate need into the decision formula. We want high IQ, versatility, hard working, cerebral, and high character guys.

At 6, it would almost guarantee us an elite PF to make this move - either Randle, Vonleh or Gordon.

Really matters where our first pick falls. If it is in the top 2, I think we get Wiggins or Parker. A PF after that would make sense, especially if Nicholson is packaged in a deal.

As much as I love the Swaggy P Circus, I dont think we want Nick Young here...he doesnt fit the kind of character, team oriented profile. He's about 2 things and 2 things only - getting buckets and having swag.

I just read an article that Cleveland has been in the lottery 4 yrs in a row. It doesn't seem like it has been that long, I gotta think that if you want to over haul the lottery system that would be a good place to do it. If a team is there multiple times then they are not doing a good job of trying to rebuild, there should be some sort of sliding scale where they get penalized for stinking for long periods of time.

Break a leg................please don't break a leg. smile_svgsad.png

To hope is to admit that you're helpless and have no control. So I won't hope.

I KNOW...we'll get a great pick. Then..we'll win a championship next season.........erm.

The Orlando Magic are stocked in the front court, so a top overall pick might seem like a no-brainer: take a point guard; but the word from Orlando is they will draft the best possible player regardless of position.

There has been a sense for a while that Orlando likes Parker and after the Draft Combine there is a sense that Exum is on their radar as well.

The Magic will give Wiggins a long look because some believe he could play off-guard at the next level and a Wiggins – Victor Oladipo backcourt could be crazy good.

The Magic could be a dark horse team on Embiid simply because they have a ton of young bigs on rookie scale contracts and could be patient with Embiid’s back and development, but he would have to clear his medical with flying colors to be a real option in Orlando, especially when you factor in that the Magic really don’t need a center unless they come out of the process believing Embiid is the player long term of the bunch.

Sounds like we may me interested in drafting Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, or Exum. Hard to believe people are actually paid to write this stuff.
