I hate thinking about money in sports, i really do. Should be able to be a fan and just want the best players. However i just can't wrap my head around having Trae and all the other players on the team we have to pay.

In any scenario we trade for Trae we have to almost assume either Franz or Suggs is going back the other way.

At least DJ i can see fitting in with everyone staying. His contract is 25 million this upcoming year and escalates to 31 million 3 years later. I honestly can't see a Young trade without Franz going back the other way. DJ i could see happening but even that way they would be trying to get Suggs or Franz.

It just makes more sense that we finally give out a free agent contract since they literally targeted this year to have money to spend. So take a big look at actual free agents. I would still much rather get a couple of lesser players then one big one. Two guys like Tyus Jones and Hartenstein at 15 million each would be much better for the teams growth. Much easier to move those pieces as well.

At this point as far as a trades the only idea that kinda makes sense is the Simons trade mentioned above. Unless some team just wants to give us somebody for nothing. At this point i view first round picks as expendable so 2 or 3 picks FR picks would mean nothing to me. We don't need them right now.

As much as I love WCJ I think he could be part of a trade with some picks for a very good PG. We could get by better with Goga, Mo, and JI manning the 5 than we do without a PG that can play good D and shoot 3s or a very good SG that can share some ball handling with Suggs.

Yeah, WCJ hasn't been the same. His game has regressed. It's almost like if he's not making 3's, he just check out.

Naz Reid has become the player many thought WCJ had the potential to be when he was traded to Orlando. The kids a stud. He's going to make bank when his contract is up. He'll only be 25-26 year old the next time he hits the market.

Even with Carter’s obvious regression, he’s still probably better than his salary pays him. We need to keep the long term picture in mind. Any replacement Center we get for him will probably cost significantly more money if we’re flirting with the idea of Hartenstein or Claxton. If the plan would be to pay Goga less long term and he was that fringe big, id be okay with it, assuming we dealt Dell for a guard that could shoot to throw into the starting lineup for spacing.

It’s disappointing because a year ago he was head and shoulders our 3rd best asset on a sweetheart deal, now he’s probably not much more than a fringe starter big who isn’t good enough to close out most games. If there’s ever a world where JI can play more than like 20 minutes a night, I actually like him as our starting 5.

I'm willing to risk Wendell having a rebound season next year versus trading him with lower value.

Now if NOLA would trade Murphy or Herb for WCJ, i’d do that.. And go after Claxton in FA…

but i actually think we will go after Monk and draft Da Silva and call it a day this offseason

We still have AB and also Jett in the pipelines

Im happy that we are having a tough stretch.. It keeps the team humble, as even in the highs, it was visible that we aren’t there yet. We have to work very hard for every W. They don’t come easy..

It also keeps it real for Weltmann, who tempts to be really slow at evaluating. If we’d have finished second, i bet he wouldn’t have been aggressive at all in the offseason.. It’s still no guarantee that we’ll be aggressive (as he didn’t even get a buy low shooter at the deadline, nor Dejaunte although it seemed very possible)

So a playin with a possible 2 and out, should be very humbling for some unrealistic players, coaches, management and also fans..

I am reminding myself that at the beginning of season I would have been satisfied with a .500 record and play in opportunity.  Even though this latest stretch has been tough to stomach, we are still exceeding expectations overall.

Hopefully we can hang on to a 6th or higher seeding and get a win or two (and valuable experience) in a 1st round series.  I’d be amazed with anything beyond that.

I think with us recently flirting with a possible 2nd or 3rd seed had me becoming disillusioned that we might have a good shot at making a deep run in the playoffs.. that ain’t happening, not yet..
