I would rather stockpile talent and keep the ones you like and maybe they are better than your think tank thought. It isn’t about the player, it is about the idea of the player. You can only have so many players on your team. Plus, draft picks are kind of non-depreciate-able assets. A second round pick is basically always worth a second round pick (at least until set in stone. The 60th pick is unlikely to get much). However, a player in the second round has much less value- especially initially. With an extra 2nd rounder, you can always use it as a throw in for a trade where you just need a little more, for another second rounder, or, of course, actually use it if you see a player you like. Right now we're a little heavy. Need more spots for vets. As long as he got a future pick out of it that's fine. How much money do we have for vets this year? So if you draft a second rounder and that second rounder ends up being really good a team can steal that player from you I can understand that but what I am sensing from many of these posts is uncertainty. We pretty much know this draft, even though I do like the pick, will not give us much for next year. Free agency may address much of that angst or not. If we lose Vuc (hope we do) and Ross (would like him back) that is a lot to lose. I like the roster assembled and I think it bodes well for the future but the certainty of another playoff run next year masy boil down to Fultz's health and we have heard nothing. I am hoping that is a good thing. Chicago was called the youngest team in the NBA. In a couple of weeks we might rival that claim.

We need to avoid long term money. Let's say we start like this: Fultz-fournier-Isaac-Gordon-Bamba Augustin-Ross-iwundu-?-Birch Briscoe-Frazier-?-okeke-Mozgov We'd have the 9.2 million MLE to fill the final two spots and I imagine we'd sign a PF to fill that Johnathan Martin role and probably a point guard to balance the roster if Fultz can't play. Maybe another center on a one year deal if Mozgov can't play. If we don't bring guys back and have more holes on the bench we can have 17 million to over a good player. We can also go all out and shift some guys around and get max cap room if we really need that. But a conservative approach seems most likely and means Fultz and Bamba look like ready contributors. MagicOne 119 Report post Posted June 21, 2019 Okeke fits in long term ? Coming back from a torn ACL I believe ? Who knows how these things work out. He could wind up being a pleasant surprise when he eventually takes the court.
