OP you are correct. Hennigan clearly states this if you read his interviews. You have to read between the lines a little but it is obvious that he expects to see progress.

The guy to get is George Karl. A proven playoff coach who can turn a mid market team into a perennial playoff contender. But would he want to do it?

Marc Jackson would be fun. He has his issues but he did show that he can take a young team to the playoffs. He got results his first year. The problem with him is more about his character. Sure he is a pastor, but he's also a guy who appears to always be looking for the next job (or girl).

I do not want George Karl, his time passed him by, his teams got eliminated in the first round for 10 years except for 2008, I do not want to see the Magic get to the playoffs only to be eliminated in the first round every year which would get old

I would possibly want to see Jeff Van Gundy. I'd admit that he comes of as an eccentric but he had a injury riddled Houston team and that legendary Knicks team. That Houston team should have at least won 2 championships if not for those injuries. Too much depth.

No thanks, I doubt Jeffrey will want to go back to coaching anyway

Cat, I thought the very same thing about Jackson, I think he would double down on the defensive efforts, and his level of intensity from the bench could also produce increased efforts on the floor!

It also doesn't hurt that Jackson is very serious about his faith and he and RDV share much of the same religious views!

Personally, I think this could be a good thing for both the on and off the court matters.

Now, with that said, no one walking the face of this earth is without issues, to include Jackson, but I think he would be able to get much more from this group than anyone!

What about Scott Skiles. He'll get us to the next level before we have to fire him

I think Nails would be fine....if he mellowed some. He has an old...old...old school approach to coaching and he struggles with Primma Donnas. I though he was a good coach, but hard to take by many of today's players.

If mellowed he would be a very good choice!

Luckily we don't have any Primma Donnas and hopefully we will avoid them moving forward.

Not convinced about JV, but this team isn't talented enough to win more then 25-28 games. Expecting anymore is more of an issue with rating our players then our coach. Perhaps in in 2 or 3 years (player development wise), but now? There's only a handful of other teams we should honestly hope to beat on any given night.

And Marc Jackson is a terrible coach. It's one thing to not get the most out of your low-talent team, it's another to make your talented team worse.

Stan would have gotten us to the playoffs somehow

No joke, he could. Will go down as one of the best coaches the Magic has ever had that delivered real results.

I feel like we have Matt Millen running the Magic... 2yrs tanking with this year not looking any better.

I actually have this weird feeling that Billy Donovan would be the perfect coach for this team. I know he backed out on the team before. I get that it is unlikely to happen. And I know that some people don't like Billy Donovan. But hear me out:

The ownership clearly liked him before; so if they were convinced he's committed, I see no reason they wouldn't like him again. He might be more willing to leave Florida, now, since the high of the back-to-back championships is worn down a bit.

As to why he's perfect for this team: Watch last year's Gators. Scrappy, low-ego guys who played hard, even if they weren't the most talented team; and they were the best team in the nation who basically just couldn't beat one team. They lost three games, all to Final Four teams . . . without a single NBA draft pick in the starting lineup. Now look at the back-to-back championship team. Sure, it had three NBA players on the roster, two of whom were very good NBA players. But the success of the team was for the same reasons those guys have had success in the League: scrappy, low-ego guys who played hard every night. One of the odd things about Billy Donovan is that he seems to have more success when he has less outside shooters. One really good one and a few guys who can make people play somewhat honest seems best for him. Even when he went to the championship game with Mike Miller, the hallmark of that team was that they shared the ball a ton and played great defense. His less successful years have been when he had players who tried to do too much by themselves (the black spot on humanity that is Matt Walsh, the disappointment that was Kenny Boynton, the only minimal talent on the team that was Nick Calathes).

Look at the team in Orlando. What do we want from these guys? What does Hennigan seem to be building? He's bringing in a bunch of scrappy, low-ego guys who are known for work ethic and playing hard every night. They're not great shooters, but they have all shown that they are the types of players who sacrifice for the team. Billy Donovan basically does one thing REALLY well. He gets his guys to buy into and develop as a team. I have a feeling he would love Aaron Gordon, a potential PF who can pass and handle the ball. Billy would have Dipo and Elf hounding guys on the outside, and doing it without that recklessness that other "players' coach' guys tend to see. Billy Donovan creates teams that control the tempo of games. The players in Orlando are perfect for being developed into that type of team.

I'm not saying I think this will happen; because i REALLY don't. I'm just saying I'd love to see it.
