Lack of Go To Scorer Could Cost Magic Championship (SI LINK)

Recommended Posts

quote:
The look splashed across Rashard Lewis' face spoke volumes. Sunday night, with his team trailing by seven points with a little over seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Magic's All-Star forward took a moment during a dead ball to exhort his teammates. He clapped and shouted -- at no one in particular -- as if he was imploring someone, anyone to step up.

Unfortunately for Orlando, no one did.

Also:

Despite the crushing manner in which Orlando gave home-court advantage back to Boston, the Magic still may hold an edge in this series, with Boston showing more and more of the wear and tear that comes with a depleted roster and a grueling first round series. But until Orlando finds a go-to scorer, a player who can make the perimeter shot, create his own shot in the lane and knock down free throws (all at the same time) they will never be a championship contender.

Thoughts?

ummm, yeah. Here is my thought:

Did i miss something? Did we not come back from that 7 pt deficit? Were we not ahead by a point with 11 seconds left? Did this moron even watch the game?

Dwight, Lee and Shard all stepped up and helped us come back.

We don't need one, although I'd prefer to go into either Dwight or Shard during the final ticks. They are our two best players right now, so naturally, they should have the ball in their hands throughout the 4th.

This is only a temporary "dilemma", however. Jameer is our go-to guy next season.

First of all, go to scorers need to be able to get the foul calls consistently. None of our starters have that ability including Dwight.

Let me ask you a question now. Imagine 2 scenarios:

-Assume Hedo drives 10 times to the basket in a game. He gets slapped/pushed or acts some, whatever. Somehow gets the call 8 out of 10 times. He automatically gets 13 points just from the foul shots (80% FT shooting). Since game stops also, Celtics can not fast-break. He is the best player in the game according to TNT and Magic up by 13 points.

-Assume Hedo drives 10 times to the basket in a game. He gets slapped/pushed or acts some, whatever. Somehow gets the call 2 out of 10 times. He only gets 3 points from the foul shots, and his misses causes fast-breaks on the other hand where Celtics score 8 points(50% shooting). He is the worst player in the game according to TNT and Magic down by 5 points.

Now, put every player in this position from Magic.

And now, think of Pierce and Rondo. Wow, scary conspiracy isn't it?

And now, think of Lebron and Kobe, our possible opponents if we beat the Celtics. Even more scary :-)

Why does this "lack of go to scorer" crap come up when we lose a close game?

**** I'm in a terrible mood.

Every great team has a go to scorer and WE do have to have one, that is the problem with this team. Nelson may be this player but I need more than half a season to believe this. Those go to guys get those fouls called and is the reason why we settle for jumpshots most of the time because we won't get those calls at the end of games. Turk was this player last year but is not that player this year. Thats why you have to be careful with Nelson because look how quickly things have changed with Turk.

Wow, we came back from a 7 point deficit where Boston didn't score for 7 minutes. We should have been up by 10. That is the problem no one stepped up offensively. Look at the team we are playing Schalabrine and Big Baby are playing huge minutes! Shard and Dwight should be scoring 30 a game. This Boston team is so far below us skill wise but a league above us in Basketball IQ and mental toughness.
