    Beard Question

I noticed that the coaching staff is not joining in the "beard" campaign. Even Otis is growing it, why not Stan? I bet the bald coach would look scary with it.

  5. Do you know why Carmelo was grinning the whole game last night? Because, he came to the realization of his new superpower! He can abuse and foul people all game long, but he will still get all the calls in his favor at both ends. He is not in Denver anymore, and I think last night was the first time he realized the benefits of the "big market"..
  6. Similarly, in the last Boston-NY game, Carmelo elbowed Big Baby after grabbing and securing a rebound. He did not get a foul call/technical/or suspension after the game. The clip should be on Youtube.

    No Cav's Game Thread?

I absolutely agree that educated guessing is better than blind guessing. The question is, are you educating yourself purely with numbers and counting results, or do you look into more depth including emotional, mental, etc. levels ? My original point was that, human behavior can not be explained or predicated by counting/statistics. Humans are a lot more complicated than two dice being rolled. And since the human element is part of the GAME of basketball (nonetheless GAME is the defintion of basketball) , all bets are off in my book. Yes, everybody has a right to post and respond to posts, but a little respect and courtesy goes a looong way. I probably won't be able to post for a while due to busy-ness, but try to read as much as possible. Peace

I have decided and promised to not directly reply to DOM before, so I am presenting this argument as a general example: I am very well qualified on the scientific side, but the details of my qualifications are beyond the point. Statistics is the science of COUNTING, anybody is welcome to argue otherwise all they like. Statistical analysis can only tell you WHAT HAPPENED (thus counting), and not what is GOING TO HAPPEN. Any predictions of real life events based on statistics is just educated guessing. I know that many people make decisions based on stats day in and day out, but it doesn't make it "the correct way" or the ABSOLUTELY true thing. One needs to learn how to be flexible at times, and live their life beyond statistics. What are the chances that I roll double-sixes 100 times in a row? Statistics will tell me one in a bazillion chance right (10 ^ -156)? But what happens when someone does it in front of your eyes and becomes that ONE in a bazillion. Now, if you had bet all your wealth and health against him, then you lose big time. History is full of events like this, where the most unexpected happens and defies COMMON sense. These things turn into big stories for centuries after that (for example the story of David-Goliath, etc.).. ----- To turn a long story short, I beg people not to belittle or jump on someone just because they come up with an argument or point out something that doesn't coincide with COMMON sense/knowledge. They have a reason for saying things too, and everybody deserves a chance to be heard. NOT just the so called "elite, high post count" people. People need to realize that the correct way is not always "your way". It is very easy to destroy relationships (like the people who bother to read and write on this forum) than building them. Peace

My 2 cents: I agree with TMF in a sense that, some "high post count" members on this board has made others feel unwelcome - especially when they share their "subjective" ideas. I wonder how many intellectually stimulating posts do some "high post count" people have besides the LOLCAT and other absurd pictures and GTFO , IBTL phrases? That is what you would expect from bored/care-free young kids I guess. Now, basketball is a subjective GAME, first of all. It is not mathematics or physics. There is a HUMAN element in basketball. And, for the REAL scientists here, statistics is a science for COUNTING things, NOT PREDICTING. So, it would be very good if people stop DICTATING their opinion based on statistics. Dwight shooting 60% on average CAN absolutely NOT predict how many baskets he will score in the next 10 shots - PERIOD. And "game threads are replaced by chatroom" is not a valid argument. Not everyone feels comfortable or likes following 30+ people writing at the same time. My head hurts trying to follow who said what when the chat scrolls at 100 lines per second speed. The game threads give the people the opportunity to follow clearly AND respond appropriately to what everybody is saying. "My life took over" may be valid for some people, I know from myself for example. But although i moved away from Orlando over a year ago, and I don't have a lot of time, I still try to follow the message boards and post as much as possible. I even managed to watch >70 magic games each over the last two seasons , from a remote location. So, "the boards going downhill" concept must have another explanation. I miss the 2008 season and stock up/stock downs personally. I recently joined RealGM since this board is becoming an afterthought by many. The realGM board seem to have a lot more up-to-date information and more interesting discussions. Peace
  10. Last night, Carmelo elbowed Big Baby after grabbing and securing a rebound. I saw this in the NBA highlights. It looked just like how Dwight elbowed Dalembert 2 years ago in playoffs. If Carmelo doesn't get a suspension, then add that video to the list. By the way, has anyone wondered what happened to this message board? It looks like going downhill quickly. Maybe it has turned into a private clubhouse for a couple of people?

OFFICIAL GAME THREAD: MAGIC @ LAKERS

I would like to rant some about Jameer: Jameer needs to get off his behind and defend some please! Everybody keeps focusing on his offense, but nobody mentions how lazy and out of place he is defensively. Every opposing PG, REGARDLESS OF HOW GOOD THEY ARE torch the magic night in and night out. Fisher was again free roaming in 3pt line last night, where Jameer was nowhere to be found. Sorry, he was in the paint watching Fisher knuck down shots. Other players have to run to Jameer's guy every time having to leave their own guy open. It is a domino effect that ends up in Dwight leaving his men, and an easy basket or offensive rebound.

Apparently more things are in common (WEIRD?? DEJAVU??): - EXACT same half-time score (63-48) - Mo made a halftime, buzzer-beater, 66 feet half-court 3 (Miller made it in this game, didn't count)

SHHHHH......T This game reminded me a lot of 2009 eastern finals - the first two games. Magic down by 20+, and came back to win the first game, and almost the second game back then. That's how Magic was that season, all season long. Never gave up until the last minute. It is nice to see that swagger come back to the team!! By the way, today's win and those wins back then have something in common: Lebron the hero. Interesting?
