New Orlean Hornets change team name....
HighAngleDad replied to MoMagic1's topic in Around the NBA/Globe Game
Maybe they will be like the high school over on the beachside in Daytona. They are the Sand Crabs. But not just any Sand Crab, they are the Fighting Sand Crabs. So maybe we will have the Fighting Pelicans. Just a thought... -
Is Anyone else enjoying watching the Lakers?
HighAngleDad replied to Orlando Magic Toaster's topic in Around the NBA/Globe Game
For the first time in my adult life I am actually following the Lakers. Every meltdown and breakdown is priceless. I especially love when they lose at home, especially when the fans give up and start leaving early. They have always been a late-arriving bunch of fans so I am tickled they are not getting their money's worth for their tickets. That game we played against them was spectacular and I enjoyed every minute. I think we do have some potential for some more upset wins this year. And I agree, Stern will rig things so some team has to give up a player to fix one of his flagship teams . -

I thought the part where the guy who makes his living wearing gym shorts told Gasol to "put on his big-boy pants" was just too much. :wacko:/> -

Would you welcome Dwight Howard back?

There is no way I want DwightAlmighty (world's tallest three year old) wearing a Magic uniform. -
The Dwight Howard Drama Unfolds
HighAngleDad replied to Live or Die Magic's topic in The Thread Hall of Fame
There could be an issue with this lineup on offense. Dwight is under the impression he MUST average 30 points and 20 rebounds a game or he is nobody (thank you for that one Shaq). He will be demanding the ball even though he is not quite the offensive threat that Westbrook and Durant represent. Given that he lacks the discipline and dedication needed to improve his free throw percentage, he will actually be a liability late in a close game. Given his lack of maturity as the world's tallest 3 year old, this will carry into the locker room and into tweets and other media. Even with all of that though, I would not mind sending Dwight their way in exchange for Westbrook and Ibaka. -
The Dwight Howard Drama Unfolds
HighAngleDad replied to Live or Die Magic's topic in The Thread Hall of Fame
All valid points, but only if DA finds the maturity required to see these points for himself. If not, he disrupts the team and they never reach their potential. One of your points concerning how he shuts down the lane is probably the most important. Getting him to accept that role while also accepting that he is not an overpowering offensive threat is the real key. Given the 3-point shooting talent we had, and the threat we had for dribble penetration, DA playing within his talents here would have made the Magic as strong a threat to the Heat as the Thunder would be (at least on paper) if DA went there. -
The Dwight Howard Drama Unfolds

I have to disagree with the outcome of DwightAlmighty going to OKC. He is a major force on the defensive end of the court, but in reality he is a liability at the offensive end. He lacks the discipline and dedication to improve his free throw percentage and so will always be fouled late in a close game. Where DA went bad is when he listened to the comments of Shaq who said he (DA) was not effective because he was not averaging 30 points and 20 rebounds a game. That was when DA started demanding the ball and that is when he really went downhill. Send him to OKC, and watch the OKC offense and the locker room implode. -
I lean towards this option too, but maybe we are just being a bit vindictive. As far as other teams, I would like to see him go to the TimberWolves so he can learn to ice fish. Or maybe to the Jazz so he can go hiking in the desert. Or to Portland, just because. Whatever, I am tired of overpaid whiners and just want him gone.

Don't forget the incredible number of moving screens that Garnett sets, and how flabbergasted he gets when 1% of them actually get called. I can't stand either of these teams, but I am so sick of Boston being in the finals. As another question to tag into this thread, will the refs allow Boston to lose in the finals, even if the Thunder totally outplay them?

Playoff Gamethread!! Magic @ Pacers Game 2-Round 1
HighAngleDad replied to Beast From The East's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
I will go out on a limb and make two suggestions for the next game. First, Davis needs to start out with shots from 10 to 15 feet out instead of trying to bull his way to the rim. He is good at that distance and will force Hibbert to come out and defend. Once he has hit a few a pump fake will freeze Hibbert and then Davis can bull his way to the rim. Second, Nelson does need to drive to the rim. He is very effective doing that and gets the game moving. If both of these things happen it will force the defense to react and open up the outside shots for our shooters. Just a thought. -

Wait, we totaled 32 points for the 2nd and 3rd quarters... we make the Nets look like an offensive powerhouse. -

No wonder Dwight wants to go to NJ, they are trailing the Bulls 62-37 at home... at halftime... -
JJ Redick sounds frustrated about team including Dwight
HighAngleDad replied to Hanaway's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
One thing the superstar players seem to forget is where a large chunk of their income actually comes from. It comes from ticket sales and merchandise sales, in other words out of OUR back pockets. They seem to forget they are paid millions to play a GAME. When they decide to make a change, the way Dwight has (and Shaq before him), they are actually giving all of us a massive middle finger. I posted earlier that he is lucky I am not the team owner. If I were, and I had that kind of money, I would consider that I had money to burn. I would park him at the far end of the bench for the rest of the season. No trade, just absolutely NO playing time. Not one more point, not one more rebound, not one more blocked shot, not one more second on the floor. On the upside, not one more missed free throw. I would do that because as a team owner I would consider the team chemistry to be more important than the massive ego of one person. Park Dwight and move on with the current roster. Park Dwight and give him absolutely nothing that he wants. -

I agree, and it would only help our bench players if they got a few more minutes during the course of the season. -

I sort of have the first row thing running. The internet is so slow here that it only runs for a few seconds at a time and then stops to buffer. I expected that, it happens with all of the video type things. Difficult to watch though. -

We are playing far better tonight, but the one stat that always seems to stay the same: Dwight is 3 of 10 from the free throw line. Even 6 of 10 would be great... -
Open Message to Dwight Howard #12 Orlando Magic
HighAngleDad replied to barnettej's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
I suppose Dwight is lucky I am not the coach of the Magic. If I were, and I were told that Dwight would be leaving, I would immediately begin the task of replacing him. Step one would be to park him on the far end of the bench. Even if he were here the entire season waiting for his trade, he would NEVER once set foot on the court. If he is leaving he is gone NOW and all practice and all game planning would be based on that fact. He is either with us or he is an opponent, and the day he says he no longer wants to be one of us is the day he becomes an opponent. Farewell Dwight. :pokewithstick: -
The Results Of Kobe's Trade Demands

I wonder why Dwight would want to follow in Shaq's footsteps instead of making his own way... -

I only saw the first half of the first round of the draft, but I think I heard boo's every time David Stern came out to the podium. If so I think he more than deserves it.
