We have been saying for months on these boards that somewhere along the way, the OS beat writers lost status with the Magic organization. John Denton of the Florida Today (he also does features for USA Today and ESPN) enjoys great rapport and access with the team. In all the Magic press conferences I attended last season, it was very clear that John Denton enjoyed "top dog" status. Regarding the situation with Turkoglu, I side with the camp that thinks Turk is unlikely to go happily back to the bench after enjoying near All-Star status this past season. Of course, he may also want to win. It's very possible that a successful season (wins) in a 6th man role will not lower but will instead increase his value come contract time. The Solution 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Common sense tells us that Maggette wants guarantees. Turkoglu's shadow is hanging over the discussions you can be sure. Meanwhile Maggette talks to the Spurs and other teams trying to get assurance that he will be their starter and get minutes like he received for the Clippers. I don't believe any team will be willing to do that. On the negative side, I believe that Otis is uncomfortable with any one player taking the full MLE...so I question how hard he is trying. We probably are not talking to Pietrus now because we are afraid that we would disturb the negotiations with Maggette. In my opinion, not a good move. After sleeping on it, I still think we can win a Championship without Maggette, especially if Dwight improves his free throws (that's all it takes Dwight!), but he'd definitely make things a lot easier.
