Everyone down in Orlando was unusually excited a few days ago about something real big happening for our team. Why? Nothing has happened!!!! Alex Kennedy: I'm glad you asked, Matthew. I know Magic fans were going crazy on draft night but behind the scenes, there was a lot going on as well. Anyone who has read my chats or Twitter pages knows that I have had my doubts that Orlando would be able to acquire a big name player this offseason. When I heard that the team had made a call about Chris Paul, I didn't think anything of it. After all, when a superstar like Chris is anywhere near available, every team should at least make one call and that's what happened around the league. But on Thursday morning, I got a call that suggested Orlando was on the verge of making a big move. Throughout the day, sources shot down trade rumor after trade rumor. The discussions between Orlando and Chicago had died. The Arenas for Carter talks were very brief. Then, I received a text message that simply said, "CP3." Other media members and agents who had heard similar rumors threw out some commentary. "I bet they're just looking for a third team at this point," or "Orlando would be willing to take a bad contract for Paul." Throughout the afternoon, the rumors were getting crazy. I don't know if one person just kept trying to add fuel to the fire and feed out info but everyone was hearing that talks were going on. When Pat Williams posted that something "BIG" could happen tonight for the Magic, it lined up with what everyone was hearing. While I think the Paul deal discussions are dead (who knows how serious they ever got?), I do think Orlando is still looking to make a bigger move than I predicted. Otis is clearly looking to make significant additions and these next few weeks will be interesting. Nothing has happened yet but don't be surprised if this is the first of many times Magic fans are worked up this summer.
