In the last few days, the Magic had targeted Seattle power forward Kurt Thomas, who was traded late Wednesday from Seattle to San Antonio in exchange for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick.

The Magic had tried to get him for a combination of their expiring contracts, but they were hesitate of giving up Arroyo without also getting another point guard in return, worried that an injury to Jameer Nelson would leave them stranded at the position.

After days of talking possible trades, Smith decided that he would wait until this summer to add and subtract from his current 15-man roster, hoping they have enough weapons now to go deep into the playoffs.

"I'm not a guy who wants to change directions in the middle of the season,'' Smith said. "Any major deal will have to wait until the summer.''

what major deal will be done over the summer? we are over the cap, no expiring deals, a lousy draft pick, and otis. we have the MLE to look forward to, thats it.

A trade of Arroyo and Garrity for Kurt Thomas WORKS. DOOLING WAS NOT INVOLVED.

Arroyo = $4 mil

Garrity = $3.9 mil

-----------------

Thomas = $8 mil

Where the heck is Dooling in there????????

@%^* I swear, you guys must be Otis' children or something. GDI.

So if Meer or Dooling go down who plays PG for us in the playoffs?

First off, I overreacted... did not mean to offend neone... I don't think I did... but anyway...

In any case, I clearly see your point. But are we seriously going to prevent ourselves from obtaining a *starting* PF just to keep around a *3rd string* PG? Evidentally, Otis is VERY serious about that...

In a very literal sense... that's what happened.

Otis decided he wanted a 3rd-string PG more than he wanted a starting PF. Wow.

Otis did not trade Arroyo because in the near future Arroyo could become the Mayor of Orlando!

To me, Kurt Thomas is about as good as Battie. So why go out of our way to get him. And even though CA is the 3rd string, we'd be putting ourselves in a dangerous position by only having one true PG on the roster.

i dont get his gm mindset...and let me remind everybody here that he didnt make any attempt to get luis scola either.

Otis lets sit and wait for Fran and his girlfriend, in the meantime lets throw the franchise's current season down the drain. What's the point of 50 wins and a division title...we the fans want the championship not a southeast division title with lame teams as competition.

Hill wanted to leave.

Darko wanted 10 mill to be a stiff.

I was alluding to the fact that he just let their potential trade possibilities go to waste. Could have easily signed Hill and then traded him to phoenix. I am sure conversations about Darko's contract started earlier, but Otis was convinced that his persuasion abilties and creative financing would land Darko. I feel he could have done much more with them rather than let them walk for nothing.
