Penny Hardaway's Ghost 260 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I was so excited when Otis signed MP, not because I thought MP was a great player per se, but because I saw MP's attributes as a huge plus for this team. I thought the few things that MP did well would be a major shot in the arm for our team. Granted he has been injured, and that's a tough draw, but on top of the injuries, to me, this kid just doesn't fit this team, at least not as a starter. He's had a handful (a child's handful at least) of good games, and the remaining games have been filled with MIA stats, idiotic turnovers and bad fouls. I am hoping he can come back and remain healthy for us and maybe even contribute, however at the current time I am more than a little miffed with him. ~O~ 565 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 The disappointment is his lack of focus. He was excited and focused to play after coming back from that wrist injury. After that, he went back to his old self. He's been injured about three times this season...and its not helping at all. Sure we want Pietrus to go slashing into the lane and dunk over the edifices in the paint. The pain of doing so is something no fan wants to witness. Overall, Pietrus has been worse than expected. Jareth Cutestory 678 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I'm gonna say "Moderatly disappointing", though I'm not surprised after reading about all these things on Warriors forums after we signed him. Peaches is awesome when he's healthy and focused, and a headache when he plays his "Turnovers/Looking to drive through 8 guys with 3 of them being my teammates" game. The guy needs to stay healthy for more then a week.
Nessloch 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I hear ya, but I'm actually pretty excited about Pietrus coming off the bench. When SVG decided to put Lee back in the starting 5, I was pretty excited for this new back-court here in ORL. Alston + Lee has me pretty thrilled right now and Pietrus clearly plays better off the bench. I know he's been inconsistent, but I think he will be an awesome player for us off the bench. He'll log a lot of minutes when we need him defensively. Plus, just the little taste we had of Pietrus with a PG like Alston the other night and we might have seen a good indication of what he'll bring us in the spring. Sooner or later he'll be more comfortable (not to mention pretty dang fresh come April). So yes, to this point, he's been fairly disappointing. But I'm patiently waiting for (and expecting) Pietrus to be a integral piece come playoff time.
Penny Hardaway's Ghost 260 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I think for me, the real heart breaker is that I guess I set unrealistic expectations for MP this season, I figured this would be a rebirth for him, and we could expect to see him put up 12/6/2 almost night in and night out, back then I thought those numbers were extremely realistic, but now, I might as well win the power ball...I just really want this kid to work for us, and get a little bit of what we're paying for... I am convinced now that MP HAS to come off the bench for our team, when he does get healthy again...It would be nice to have our MLE player in the playoffs, we could really use him
Drain-O 369 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I would say my disappointment in him has been minimized in my excitement over Lee which came as shock to me at least. When do the Magic ever get those picks right!! I really thought he was just not used right in Golden State but it also sometimes can take time for those guys to break old habits so maybe if he stayed healthy he could build up that consistency. So I guess I lie somewhere in the middle.
cheapguitar 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 Is Petris the guy we should trade off season for the oft-mentioned "banger?" He's making $5.3M for the next several years. A cheap replacement could free some funds for keeping Rafer, Hedo and Gortat.
PNuT1423 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 i still like what he does even though he can't find whatever groove he has because he's always injured, also it's not like he's going to get alot of offensive touches even if he was in such a 'groove' i think 80 percent of our offense comes out of our 'big 3' and no real plays are run for guys like lee or peitrus on a regular basis, they spot up for the three ball, and when the lane is clear they take it hard to the basket, and in peitrus' case, extremely hard. peitrus has yet to play any real minutes against paul pierce, but he's done great defensively against guys like andre igudola (sp?) and he was doing find against gerald wallace when he was in the game there as well. peitrus had the pleasure of guarding guys like lebron when he was here, and other than lee, i don't see how anyone else is going to provide solid defense on star sg/sf type players. so not that disappointed at all really, just a case of the bad falls lol. ball junkie 277 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 One comment, Stan is constantly riding his butt...at least I see it a lot at home games...I even saw it in the last road game before he got hurt. How can you not get a guy on the floor though that can get get you 24 and 10 fron the shooting guard spot like he did recently??? Just sayin'...
TheRevTy 6 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I think his injuries have kept him from gaining consistency needed. I'm hoping once he can stay in the lineup, he'll gain a role and some consistency. It is tough when you are in and out of the game due to an injury to your shooting hand. I think Stan needs to make him the 6th man and keep him that way. chrisinboston 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I agree with you Nessloch, he will be more valuable coming off the bench and will provide a better scoring option in that he can slash to the hoop which JJ and others can not. As a starter he is probably the 4th or 5th option thus he tends to fire away with bad shots as soon as he touches the ball. But coming off the bench will probably be the 2nd or 3rd option thus more plays will be run for him. Also, in the playoffs it will be good to have him vs Pierce and James - I know he can't stop them but just to throw different looks at him will be better than not having him. The only thing I am really disappointed with Pietrus is the bad fouls. Those have to stop because in the playoffs Pierce will shot fake him to death and jump into him while shooting and he will be too "handsy" with Lebron and the refs will call a foul if you get near him in the playoffs.
