HW Article: "Magic Shopping for a Guard"

Recommended Posts

I think a Vince carter move would be nice and possible if you offered

Nets get Battie, Cook, Pietrus

Magic get Carter, Najera

Both Nets players are locked in for 4 years but Najera contract gets cheaper over the 4 years as other contracts go up.

Magic do this because they get a slasher and hometown hero plus an extra banger who can shoot a 3

Nets do it because they get cap relief and a young SG who likes to run the floor.

With economic difficulties looming for NBA franchises, right here - right now, is where the strong should get stronger.

Hoopsworld is reporting that teams everywhere are selling off assets. IMO, this truly represents a "buy low" opportunity for all of the contending teams.

The difference is, teams like CLE are looking at Camby and Shaq while we were looking at Lue.

Anybody see something wrong with this picture?

So the arguement becomes, the Magic have nothing to offer. We had Bogans expiring contract, we also have Foyle & Wilkes expiring contracts (what was the purpose of keeping Wilkes around if you didn't intend on trading his contract?), we also have a 3.5mil TE, JJ Redick, Pietrus, Hedo, Battie, and future 1st round picks that are all expendable in varying degrees.

Where is this team's commitment to a championship? Is it next year with an overpaid Hedo adding to our salary cap problems? Is it in adding a first round pick and possibly an MLE player to next year's bench depth? Is it in 3 years when Shard's massive contract expires? Or was it this year, and this year alone, when a player who nobody expected to contribute heavily, overachieved and then derailed our entire season with an injury?

Can somebody tell me precisely what Otis' plan is? Because from here it seems that JJ, Battie, Cook, Shard, and AJ all must be part of that plan - and any plan containing those players and their contracts seems to have been flawed from the start. And that says nothing about replacing the roster spots currently held by Wilkes, Richardson, Foyle, Gortat and Lue or the contract situation of Hedo that will all need to be addressed.

I really love how Danny Ferry has gone from being considered a buffoon to being an aggressive GM because all of a sudden he's pushing expirings on people rather than just crappy contracts on role players that he accumulated.

Compared to letting 25 million in contracts expire in consecutive years without a single trade being made???

OK, ready for the stretch reading of the day? In the title article for this thread, take a gander at the comments. People ask what the deal is with the Magic looking for a guard. Bill Ingram responds that they want a PG. Duh. Why is that unique? Say, isn't Ingram the resident Bulls specialist at HoopsWorld? Hmmm....
