  1. I think the thought is we want Suggs / Hampton to learn to play PG and fulfill some of their playmaking potential, and they’re only going to do so through trying it and failing at it. Y’all remember Oladipo as the primary ball handler his rookie year? It was ugly to watch but there was hope that he’d get his handle under control and become a better decision maker with time. Sure enough, 4 seasons later, he was an All-Star.

I think people have rose colored glasses here too. There’s a lot of “potential” but we haven’t seen consistency from this group yet, particularly in their ability to score. And of course, staying healthy is a BIG if with these two. That will be half the battle and one of the reasons we never got to see what the Vuc/Gordon/JI/Fournier/Fultz lineup could do - both of those players have been routinely injured the last 2-3 seasons.

I think many people are forgetting how good Fultz looked prior to the injury. With that being said, I hope he hasn't lost a step after this injury. That's what made him so valuable.
  4. Kudos to Mosley for keeping in the 3rd string guys who fought back to get back into this game. A lot of coaches would be tempted to put your starters back in to win the game, but he instead rewarded those guys by keeping them on the court. I really appreciate he did that and wasn’t expecting it.
  5. This group needs consistency. Give us 3 years for this core to gel. Looking forward to seeing how JI / Markelle work here with the chemistry that is continuing to build with this team as is.

We’re shooting 34% from the field as of the 4th quarter? We need to stop drafting “defensive guys who could maybe learn to shoot.” Man this is frustrating to watch.

I think about last night how there were so many opportunities for him to close or get blocks and he didn’t look like he was even trying. he might do well in the NBA if he can get on a team that lights a fire under him with some superstar veterans (Lakers? Warriors?), but that unfortunately won’t be our team.

I don’t think any of us realized how raw Suggs was going to be, but to some level it makes sense. Last year in college was the first year in his life he was purely focused on basketball after doing the football/basketball thing equally in high school. I think we were all hoping he’d be more Dwayne Wade day 1 as a rookie, but he has more of the Victor Oladipo track with great athleticism and intangibles with a lack of offense and ball handling. Sometimes I doubt our willingness to continue to draft players like this, I have little doubt he will take a big leap in year 2-3 in this category. It won’t be pretty this year but we can’t rush it with him. His jump, all things remaining constant, will push us into the playoffs next year with a healthy team in tact.

I think you can't bench Cole at this point without hurting his feelings and thoughts on being on the Magic long term. I would allow for continue to start while he's on this hot streak. If he starts to fall off towards his average, you then convince him to be a 6th man spark. I think at this point, our rotation is: Starting Guards: Cole / Fultz 4 Minutes - Period End: Jalen / Fultz 2nd Period Start - 7 minutes: Jalen / Cole 7 minutes - Period End: Cole / Fultz Something along those lines for our guard rotation. Maybe throw in Ross, but the core guard rotation will likely try to have one of Fultz / Cole at all times to handle the ball as Jalen tries to improve his handles, unless they want to take the Oladipo approach (which I wouldn't be opposed to - Suggs has vision as a former QB but lacks ball control presently, which should come with time).

RJ HAMPTON!!! Yall, Markelle truly doesn’t have his starting PG job with how Cole is playing. No way. This is a crazy start I didn’t see coming during the preseason.
  11. Hey All - What is the best way you've found to watch the Magic games? I live in Orlando but frankly loath the idea of paying Spectrum $70 / month just to be able to watch Magic games as I don't care about any other cable channel. Anyone know of alternatives? I know NBA TV has Magic games blacked out if you live in Orlando. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m also willing to admit that my comment about Cole’s streaky nature and his inability to be a starting PG whom gets everyone involved may have been premature. The question now becomes does Markele get the starting job back in light of Cole’s recent play? Or do we still make Cole our 6th man and offensive spark off the bench?

Better than the alternative under Otis where everything used to leak to the media normally to the FO’s detriment. Then again, y’all remember that one account (I think the Moldy Hobo?) like a decade ago that would just come here and drop clear insider knowledge of signings and trades before they happened to the board? The account was legendary - What a time!

We didn’t finish tonight, but I’ll tell you that I’m proud we kept pace the entire game. These guys are slowly figuring it out. Coaching is getting better. This will be a fun year.

Oladipo started the same way. When you have an athletic, High IQ player with good touch, you keep them because they will eventually get a shot and be a more complete player. im not worried about Suggs, and I don’t think anyone else should be until year 4 if he hasn’t developed a reliable shot. That’s when Oladipo took his big leap.

Budgeting. They cut the radio broadcasting either this year or the year before due to a lack of listening from my understanding. Most people stream from their phones (Spectrum locally you can stream from anywhere) so it seems I guess a bit redundant as they were trying to figure out places to cut perhaps.

We're without 3 starters currently. Our bench wouldn't be nearly as bad if so many of our top players weren't out.

I think until we start winning, this will always be the case, particularly for the Northeastern/Midwestern transplant cities of NY, Boston, and Chicago. It's that way for many smaller markets.

Was it great defense or the Knicks just missing a ton of open 3PT? I wasn't able to watch but it looked like the Knicks just missed A TON of 3PT in the 4th quarter.

Focusing on positive takeaways from this game so far: We’ve learned from our mistakes last game. We’re passing more, playing better defense, and are being more aggressive in driving to the basket (even if it’s leading to blocks, FT’s seem to be up). All of that is COACHING - so that’s encouraging to me that Coach Mos has made a lot of good adjustments against the same team we got blown out to 2 days prior.

Again - Cole is streaky as anything. Sure - he’s been great tonight, but this is his first good game since summer league, preseason, and our first 2 regular season games. This game changes nothing to me on my long-term view of Cole until he does this every other game.

Saw that too. I’m not going to doubt how good Suggs is going to be, but I wonder if, based on the small sample size that we’ve seen in the Summer league, preseason, and now regular season, if Scottie Barnes was higher on our board than Jalen Suggs.

At this point, I think Mosley needs to preach movement and spacing and bench guys that don’t follow through. There is definitely grace in growth that is needed, but you also need to create a culture that respects and executes your game plan. I don’t think he has that in Cole.

    2021-2022 General Game Thread

I agree here. Cole is streaky and is off much, much more than he is on. It’s a wake-up call for Suggs, who has won everywhere he goes. seriously - Cole needs to be backup PG with Jalen starting and relegated to 3rd string when Markelle comes back.
