  1. Lots of the closing problem is SVG. He doesn't seem to adjust who finishes the game on who's playing well but on his established starting line up or maybe who gets paid the most. I really don't know or understand. If Nelson turns the ball over down the stretchm, put in Jwill it really doesn't matter if there are 4 min or 2 min remaining. Hell, a good highschool coach does that. Maybe SVG is afraid of hurting Nelson or Carter, ect feelings. That doesn't show much leadership or much desire to win everygame if possible. BTW Jwill only took two shots, made one, had four assists and ZERO turnovers in about 15 min playing time. In limited, min, he still had a good +-, and showed excellent control of the offense. He was more effective when he was playing 20+ min, it's hard to get into the flow of the game when you play 7 or 8 min per half. Carter hurts more than helps during crunch time ( mostly) Peaches takes horrible shots and seldom helps during the final 5 min. They just don't seem to be very well coached or have much desire for the full game and quite often during the final 5 min. It needs to be corrected. As always, I could be wrong.

The Good, The Bad & Jameer Nelson, lol (link)

I think that with Nelson, it's not has he returned to allstar form, but rather, how does the offense run with Nelson in charge? The offense seems to flow better with Jwill at point. This is not just a statistical fact, but an observation. We have a much higher winning percentage with Jwill starting. That is a fact. When jwill plays 25+ min, he is very effective. When he is cut to 16 or so min, not so much. It's much harder to get into the game flow with limited min. I know that Nelson will get 30+ min because it's the politically correct thing to do and he does have a big contract, but I do question whether it's smart to cut Jwill's min which decreases his effectiveness ( which we could need in the playoffs) Again, as always, I could be wrong.

    J. Will lookin' to get PAID??? (link)

The way Jwill has played for the Magic this year, I don't think he will have any problem finding a team that will pay him more than the vets min. He has the highest shooting percentage on the team if you take out the bigs who shoot in the paint. He has played good team D, taken care of the ball and pushes the ball as well as anyone. He has certainly shown that he can still run a team. Hope he stays with the Magic, but I doubt it.
  4. nelson -7, jwill +8 at end of half. This just ain't right.
  5. Random thoughts(from my random mind} Putting the ball in VC's hands during crunch time in foolish. He makes poor decisions and normally shoots a poor percentages due to poor shot selection. The ball should be placed in Dwight's hands for close baskets or kick it out for a uncontested shot. More should be run for Shard, for he is clutch. Magic can win it all without Carter because JJ plays well and makes good decisions. Peaches should not be allowed to chuck it from the cheap seats anytime he wishes. He ofter hurts the team during runs or when he is in during crunch. Jwill is old. but he is playing better than Nelson right now, (and has all year) The team flows much better with Jwill at point. Did you know that Hubie Brown (who I respect as much as anyone, he usually is right on point and tells the truth), said that Jwill had one of the hightest final two min shooting percentages in the league when he played for Memphis and Hubie. He can be clutch and makes the best decisions on the team along with JJ. Stan Van has this mentality that plays Vince, Jameer, ect when others are playing better and gives them a better chance to win a particular game. I feel he is somewhat intimitated by Howard and Jameer's friendship and the fact that he doesn't have the balls to do what Jerry Sloan or Pops or a number of other top coaches would do. Not playing who is hot just decreases your chance win on a game by game basis. Bass should be used more in certain situtations because of his skill set. Figure out how to get Dwight more shots on a regular basis. Give Shard more shots, Vince less. JJ more, Peaches less (I don't think PASS is in his native language) Post Shard more, he is a great post player. One great game does not a season, Vince has not melled with the offensive scheme and hurts more than helps. If ineffective players are continued to be counted on during crunch time, we will have problems in the playoffs. If Stan gives out min based on performance and not precieved notions or salary considerations, we have an excellent of winning it all. As always, these are my observations based on being a big NBA fan for 50 years, but i could be wrong.
  6. You can't use just one stat to develop an opinion about a particular player. You can look at the body of their work and determine who is most efficient. Jwill clearly has one of the best percentages on the team, has one of the best assist/to ratios in the entire league, and (the kicker) look at percentage of games one with Jwill starting vs Nelson starting. That stat really doesn't like. Nelson maybe still hurt, not 100%, whatever, but SVG has an obilation to put the players on the floor who give us the best chance to win, and last night, (fourth quarter) it was clearly Jwill and JJ. Most any alert coach would have recognized that and made the proper decisioin. AS always, I could be wrong. vgV
  7. Orlando backcourts-Nelson/Carter 9 for 30, 65 min - Jwill/JJ 7 for 7 32 min. What's wrong with this picture. A good coach would normally play who's hot down the stretch. It seems to me that Stan Van is so entrenched in his rotation, he seldom varies from it. Not the way to win games. Again, I could be wrong.
  8. Because of my last name, I was call "duckman" in highschool, that name stuck through my college football career and later into my business career. I was a big Pistol Pete fan when he was with the Hawks (before forums on the internet) and was a member of a hawks call in show where people used handles. Duckman was used so I added slim because it sounded cool like a old bluesman or pool hustler or poker player. I've used it for 54 years. Got it when I was 11. I guess I am an old man, but God do I love a good assist. From Cousey, to Maravich, to Magic to Jwill. I have a ways love those guys. I guess it comes from the excitement that explodes in a building when someone makes a truely spectular pass, nothing like it. This name thread is very entertaining. Makes you feel like you know your board brothers a little better. Peace to you all. Duckman Slim.
  9. I feel that when Stan puts the starters back in during crunch time, he will put Nelson in no matter if Jwill is playing well and Nelson is 4 for 13. He doesn't want to "ruffle any feathers" If he put Carter, Shard, Dwight in and didn't put in Nelson, it would hurt his feelings or "upset the chemistry" or possible upset Dwight or who knows what. Hubie Brown said that when Jwill was with the Grizz, he had one of the best final two min shooting percentages in the league and I think that would still stand true. He certainly would make better decisions as to who to get the ball to. I guess because Nelson makes more money is an "allstar" and is "the starter", decisions will be made based on these politically correct factors rather than who can give them the best chance to win in a given circumstance. Last night, Jwill shot 50%, Jameer 30%- Most great coaches will do what it takes to win any given game and to hell with what others think. This happens with other players too, Vince ect. on a regular basis. Stan needs to quit worring about what other folks thing and coach to win every game and them maybe the team will follow the lead and play to win every game, every min. You have to develop a no lose mentality and that includes playing any player on a given night who gives you the best chance to win no matter what. Of course,as always, I could be wrong.

    With Nelson (20-12)...With J. Will (13-4) Sentinel

It's not about pass first or shoot first, this argument is nonsense. It's about controlling the flow of the game to put your teammates in a position to score most effectively, it's about tempo and getting the ball to the players who are hot or inside to the big man. It's about court vision and having the ability to make good decisions most of the time. Most of the mentioned great point guards had these traits and that's why they were so good. For 34 years old, Jwill is still a very good point guard. According to Jerry West, the only reason Jwill wasn't "great" was because he loved to play and pass and didn't do a lot to improve each and every year like the great ones have done. Hubie Brown said, Jwill has one of the highest basketball iqs he has ever seen and as much natural talent as anyone he ever coached. The tempo, court vision, ect comes natural to Jwill, that's who he can create such a great flow and push the ball so well. Nelson is a good shooter, Jwill is having a better than average shooting year, but his point guard skills are much superior than Nelson's even at the advanced age of 34. This is so evident when you watch the game with Jwill pushing the ball and controlling the tempo. Anyone who doesn't see this is either a shill for Nelson, doesn't like Jwill (for any number of reasons), or is a poor student of the game. As always, I could be wrong.

    With Nelson (20-12)...With J. Will (13-4) Sentinel

As always, I am a huge Jwill fan, have followed him since highschool. If he played with the control years age that he plays with now, he would have been an allstar for a number of years. He is a very good point guard. He is old and should not be starting or playing 30+ min. He should be used as needed and maybe more at end of games. He is not prone to turnovers (especially towards end of games) and creates a great pace and flow for the other Magic players. If you every notice, Jwill passes the ball to exactly the right spot for rhythm shooters so they can shoot in rhythm and not have to adjust the ball for their shot. This is a subtle but important thing. I don't think Nelson is the long term answer at the point because (1) poor floor management (2) Height disadvantage against most other points (3) Possible long term lack of durability (4) shoot first mentality (5) poor court vision (6) poor control of pace and tempo. I do think he shoots well (sometimes) and has a nice smile. As always I could be wrong.

    With Nelson (20-12)...With J. Will (13-4) Sentinel

It's actually 13-4 with Jwill and whatever with Nelson. Jwill is actually having the best percentage shooting year of his career and his +- numbers are outstanding. These numbers actually don't lie and the truth is the truth. Again, being a Jwill fan, I still don't think he should start and play 30+ min. I do think he should finish, being that he gives the team a much better flow and tempo. Remember, it ain't how you start, it's how you finish.

    Anybody worried about Nelson? (ESPN)

14-4 with Jwill starting. Hard to argue with that stat.

    Salary vs Perfomance

Actually jwill and foyle both make $1,340,000, which is the veterans minimum for a 10 year player. I think Jwill is a hellva bargain. Some of the others, not so much.
  15. he also had 6 turnovers, team doesn't flow as well as with jwill
