Why the Hawks will win this series.

Why are these trolls still able to post? We should be having real basketball discussion....instead we are allowing trolls to troll and ruin these discussions or prevent them from even happening.

Official Gamethread: ORLANDO at Atlanta 8PM

Ryan Anderson Game 1: 24 mins 0-2 0pts 3 rebounds Game 3: 18 mins 0-2 0pts 2 rebounds and also 5 fouls(in 18 mins....) I can guarantee Earl Clark would be contributing a LOT more then what Ryan has so far this series. He is not built for the playoffs. But the lack of playing time Earl received during the reg season doesn't help any of this. Bass had an average game at best but is playing far better then Ryan. We need adjustments at the PF position, very badly. When I saw horford rip the ball away from Anderson as he came down with the rebound I had to look away in disgust(thankfully JJ got the ball back for us). This series is far from over and I think it goes 7 games, with us winning a very close game. This will be the toughest series we have had to play in since boston in 09 that went to 7. Stan needs to look at all his options and try some different things out defensively because nobody is playing defense on horford or crawford. Maybe Q on crawford out of timeouts...? How did Jameer(our worst defender)get matched on crawford when the game is on the line? A lot of questions I would be asking myself I was Stan right now because adjustments need to be made or we will be going home.

Orlando Magic @ New York Knicks Game Thread

We will need serious contributions from our bench if we plan on winning a championship. Gilbert will have to play more like he did in the 4th quarter against the likes of Boston or LA for us to win a title. Earl Clark will have to contribute somehow...he looked very rusty tonight and I hope Stan gives him more minutes so he feels a bit more comfortable out there. Anderson will have to have better shot selection. JJ will hopefully return to his pre-injury self. Q needs to defend. Duhon needs to not play when JJ gets back.

    No Cav's Game Thread?

Boards will be fine. We just had a very active trade deadline on the forums, and I expect the same come playoff time. We just played the cavs...not much to get excited about until the playoffs come around.

    Stan Van Gundy is Awesome

I'm quite shocked at some of the things Stern said in this. " Stan Van Gundy will not say anything else for the rest of the season " Colin is right when he tells Stern he is playing into SVG's hands when he said "I can't have an opinion". I also didn't like how he said "his team isn't performing well". The way he said it almost made it seem like he wants it like that... Edit: Oh and saying he's "sad" when he is clearly angry when he is talking about it...was quite interesting.

Ryan Anderson/Bass we're guarding Aldridge the majority of the night. Earl had very little time against him.

We win if Earl guarded Aldridge.
  13. Unfortunately, the better shooting opportunity is usually one pass away. He just refuses to make that pass. Also, he was rarely open last night..I believe 5 out of 8 three's were contested. I don't mind him shooting a wide open three, the problem is when we play against teams that are better at contesting three pointers he still shoots and the better option is usually one pass away. His release is too low to ever be a consistent knock down shooter over a contested hand. Ryan Anderson has always struggled against good defensive teams. To understand this, lets bring some stats that actually matter into this situation: 2010 Playoffs Ryan Anderson : FG: 9 FGA: 29 = 31 % 3P : 4 3PA : 14 = 28% These stats are exclusively against teams that are actually trying to play defense and contest shots(its the playoffs). His biggest struggles we're against Charlotte and Boston(two of the best defensive teams last year). These stats matter to me far more then stats where he can get those open shots against teams that don't know how to play defense or teams that just don't play defense because they suck....in the regular season. Aka the Cleveland/Washingtons/Golden State's of the league. Now, lets look at a more telling statistic since people seem to think he is such a great rebounder: Total minutes played: 89 Total rebounds : 31 Ouch. What this in fact tells me is that Ryan Anderson is actually a very average rebounder against playoff caliber teams. Now, Ryan Anderson particularly struggled against the Celtics(team with size, length, defense). This year will arguably be the toughest playoff run we have ever had to face in the past 3-4 seasons. If we play Chicago, Miami, Boston, or LA in the playoffs...I expect more of the same from Ryan Anderson struggling against length and good defense, as he always has. As much as you scour this forum, this is quite wrong. I have never said that gilbert should get more minutes, not once. I have been one of Jameer's biggest supporters since he has come into this league, you can also find many posts of me defending Jameer..also in the chat as well. Not quite the effort I would expect from a "Galactic Leader" ????
  14. Thoughts on the game: 1. Outside of a couple decent rebounds..Ryan Anderson was atrocious. Still wondering where all this upside is that everyone is talking about, besides chucking anywhere from 5 to 10 threes a game...and being wildly inconsistent at hitting them - 2/9 from the field and eight of those were 3 pointers...really? I'd say about 5 of those 8 three's were highly contested as well...and due to his release being so damn low it is so easy to contest his shot, which is why he struggles against teams that close out hard. Should also be noted that Shaun "No knees" Livingston posterized him in the second quarter. 2. Great game from both Jameer/Gil. Thought jameer played fantastic. Gil played within himself and looked very confident with his shot tonight. We'll need both of them come playoff time to be on top of their game. 3. Good defense. Players are actually guarding their man, making it easier for dwight to help and block/contest shots. 4. Hedo has played very well the past 2 games..I think him and Dwight have found a new OOP off that high pick and roll. He's being a playmaker. 5. Earl Clark needs more then 8 minutes. He arguably just locked down the best scorer in the NBA on friday night and SVG awards him with 8 minutes the next game....while Stephen Jackson lights us up....does it not cross SVG's mind that our best defensive player is sitting right there on the bench? I think Jax would have been held to the mid 20's if we put Earl on him. Carmelo will score 40 on us if we let Hedo guard him...I would like to see Earl on him tomorrow night and start getting minutes anywhere from 15-20 minutes every game, he's just too good to not get that kind of minutes. Anderson's minutes should be cut to about 20 minutes, he played 27 last night.

Fans Game Thread OKC Thunder at Magic

I want to break down Earl Clark's game tonight: 1. 0-4 from the field..missed some easy layups that he would normally make but his lack of playing time in the past 2 weeks I think contributed to those misses, just nerves. Regardless of those misses, two of those shots were jumpshots...one was a wide open look and the other was a contested jumper. The other 2 shots were drives to the basket...very strong takes to the basket. Yes one of those was blocked by Aldrich, but he STAYED with the play and got the ball back and got to the line...yet again showing his heart and fearlessness to take it to the basket. Aldrich is 7'1 I believe while Earl is 6'10..shouldn't surprise anyone he blocked him...but I love the aggressive play from Earl. The other was a wide open layup...I believe he just got nervous he was so open and just missed it, that will go away with more playing time. 2. Guarded Kevin Durant almost all 21 minutes of his playing time. Durant hit a couple contested jumpers on Earl but his defense was fantastic. Durant is arguably one of the best scorers if not the best scorer in the NBA right now and Earl forced him to go 7-22 from the field(not all shots taken against Earl, but a good majority). Great defense from Earl tonight and I believe he also was playing the SG for a couple minutes...and was locking down James Harden for a bit...I thought that was a VERY interesting lineup because Earl does have the versatility to play the 2 spot, but he lacks a 3pt shot...if he works on that 3pt shot we can use him in short spurts at SG for defensive purposes. There was one play when Earl went straight up on defense and it allowed dwight to help and swat it from the side. Loved it. 3. Hustle and heart. If you read the box score, I'm sorry you won't see any points rewarded for his hustle but he brings it everytime he steps on the floor. Mike Breen was jizzing all over Earl Clark with his compliments. As soon as Earl came into the game he nearly had a steal from behind on Kevin Durant...as soon as he stepped on the floor he had an impact with hustle, although he did not get the steal it was a great effort. I want this guy to continue to get playing time..at least 20 minutes a game from here on out. If you look at the stats on Earl tonight it would look like a bad game but it was quite the opposite...and the scary thing is he can only get better. This guy is a project and I hope we develop him. If you disagree with any of my analysis on Earl, please feel free to argue my points. Or you can take the bigpimpatl route and just say " he's bad...kthxbai " Great win Magic. IMO the best win of the season albeit against a short-handed thunder team. Great team-effort.

So let's just chill and let Dwight play 50 mins every game and when he gets in foul trouble in the playoffs and just roll over and play dead? Kk. Sounds good. Don't fire otis.
