Otis Smith admits he might have made a mistake
Fultz4thewin replied to iddelen's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
deals are talked about for a few days to a few weeks, not 6 months. Hedo was brought back because vince and lewis were failing. We don't lose 5 in a row prior to the trades I doubt they happen. -

Potential Bigs We Can Acquire? (Post-Trade Deadline Edition)

The issue is, it's better to have that weakness than to mortgage our strengths for the sake of fixing that weakness. Keeping our rotation and adding a random big body for the playoffs is what we're trying to do. -
We don't need his production to pick up. We just need him to be good and dynamic during specific points in the playoffs. If Arenas can win 1 game by himself in a 7 game playoff series, that might be enough to make his position on our team worth it. Jameer, JJ, and JRich can handle scoring in the guard spots during Arenas downtime.

Do Magic's Big Deals Improve Their Team?

isn't basketball in itself completely arbitrary, fortunes are gained and championships are won based on a ball going through a hoop with the same probability of a coin flip. We might win the finals if lee makes that layup. The Jazz beat Chicago if Jordan misses that jumper. It's asinine to judge the success or failure of a team based on what could amount to the flip of a coin. We continue to remain an elite team and championship contender then I'm fine with the deal. If we screw up and dwight leaves then our franchise has failed. The competition level is more important than the outcome. -
Potential Bigs We Can Acquire? (Post-Trade Deadline Edition)

when there are free agent centers that are comparable to Pekovic, why would we trade Richardson for Webster who is essentially a less productive richardson. Thats like you standing in front of an ice cream stand. A girl next to you decided she doesn't want her completely untouched ice cream and will give it to you for free. The only problem is you want sprinkles. The ice cream stand says they'll add sprinkles to her free ice cream cone for $0.15. Instead of that deal, you buy a smaller ice cream cone for $3.00. Your deal makes no sense. -
Do Magic's Big Deals Improve Their Team?

I hate when sports writers say things like "I cant see _____ happening" because that means there's likely a 0% chance in their eyes of the even happening. Should we be the favorite to come out of the east? In my opinion, no. Boston was in the finals last year and have won it all before. Boston should be favored to beat us. The thing is, being favored does not mean 100% chance to win. While the magic wont be favored to beat Boston, the new trade pushes us from 15-25% chance to win to a 40-45% chance to win. Sportswriters suck at statistics. -

how do you know they're the real florida team if they've played 13 games, 5 games have been against sub-par opponents that were easy wins (NC-W; NC-A&T; Morehead; FL atlantic; Radford. Even though games against Morehead and Radford were absurdly close), Two games were against teams that might be average but the talent level should have been an easy win (Kent State; American), and one game that was a loss to a average team that they should have been able to run off the floor (jacksonville). Those 8 games should have been marked as wins prior to the season starting. You've played 5 opponents that could possibly represent teams you will see during SEC play. You've gone 3-2. You've beaten Xavier who is probably as good as any of the average SEC teams, FSU who is probably as good or better than any of the average SEC teams (coaching holds us back significantly), and Kansas State who is an average team who's ranking was boosted by beating a bad Virginia Tech team who happened to be ranked prior to the season, an overrated Gonzaga (who already has 5 losses and was poorly ranked prior to the season). You've lost to an elite team, and a UCF team who should settle around the #17 for the rest of the season (they don't have the talent to pull a memphis and run the table, young teams lose games they shouldn't). They've played 2 legitimate teams and lost both games. No, FSU isn't a legitimate win anymore if they continue to only put up 55 points a game.

well when one team is division champion and another team is 6-6 with only 3 wins in conference you should be able to see the difference in talent level. Not to mention UCF's conference opponents were 1-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3, and 1-3 outside of Conference USA. There's a reason why Florida State's FEI ranking* is 21 (prior to bowl games) while UCF is 40th. *The Fremeau Efficiency Index (FEI) considers each of the nearly 20,000 possessions every season in major college football. All drives are filtered to eliminate first-half clock-kills and end-of-game garbage drives and scores. A scoring rate analysis of the remaining possessions then determines the baseline possession efficiency expectations against which each team is measured. A team is rewarded for playing well against good teams, win or lose, and is punished more severely for playing poorly against bad teams than it is rewarded for playing well against bad teams. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/fei -
holy crap, this is huge.

Yeah, logically we couldn't predict that Bass would play this well. Knowing what we do now the decision is easier but in the moment i wouldn't bench him. -

well, I don't think we should be the favorites to win the east either. We are more than capable of winning it though. -
