The Pat Garrity Appreciation Thread

Recommended Posts

I saw Pat grab a one handed rebound, I saw him banging with Big Ben, you can say whatever you want about Ben Wallace, he is still a huge man, he gave a good clean hard foul to Lebron, he scored, he shot, he did his job....

He is nowhere close to being a 5 mill guy, but hey, he's one of the long time players, he's been here forever, well it seems like forever....

Thanks for being ready when we needed you Pat...Hope to see a little bit more from you this year, which will probably be your last...and hope you stay with the team in some capacity.

No one said he was a star. We're acknowledging a significant contribution in a single game.

Funny you say that he is doing nothing yet, without any pre-warning, he is thrust into a situation where he plays an entire quarter even though he hasn't played more than a couple minutes in succession since maybe the 1st week of the season (if then).

He didn't look winded, or grabbing his shorts to catch a breather.

That means that he has kept himself in game shape even though he has not been playing in games. Do you have any idea how difficult that is, or how much work he must devote during practices and on his own time to keep himself in that kind of shape? The guys that play every night get in shape by virtue of the games themselves. Pat does not have that luxury.

So why not give him credit for a single solid performance instead of hating on him for the $5 million that you will never see.

Jealousy and bitterness are ugly traits; don't get caught up.

This is Pats 9th season with the Magic. If you were a true fan, you would know all the stuff he used to do for us in his prime.

Unlike some of the players on the bench, Pat is always in a good mood and cheering on the team, he doesn't complain if he gets no minutes.

What's amazing to me is how he can sit the bench that long and come right back into live game action and start knocking down shots.

Amazing! I know you know him personally Marc and I've seen you comment from time to time what a good, down-to-earth sorta guy he is.

You know what thread I was gonna do? Don't have a heart attack mods but I wanted to bring back my old thread about who was a better defender, "Redick or Garrity"? Ha-Ha!

Not trying to hijack your thread, Marc.

Good post.

I don't know him personally, I've talked with him a couple of times but I wouldn't say that I know him personally. I would say that from the few times that I have spoken with him he is a very cool person.

The intent of this thread was not to discuss and extension or anything like that, it was to thank the guy for playing hard and staying ready when his team needs him.

It's true that it isn't exactly a hardship to get paid millions to sit on the bench like some have suggested but, I see too many Jerome James's out there that play hard in a contract year and once they have their pay day they park their useless rear ends on the bench and suck the life out of that franchise. Pat hasn't played in how many games? How easy would it be to do nothing and get paid for it? How easy would it be to complain that Cook is getting mins instead of him? He doesn't do either of those things and for that I think he deserves a little thanks.

He came in and did his job....what else is he supposed to do? Im offering janitorial services for a bad situation...heck Ill even consider cutting alex martins grass and pulling weeds down at the Parliament house (uhhh maybe not).

If all I had to do was wait to be called upon for 5 mill Id look like a cross between Lee Haney and Dwight Howard (although shorter and more caucasian).. Id have the endurance of Lance Armstrong...for pete sakes the all the guy has to do every day is get ready. All NBA players are insanely overpaid and do very little relative to the amount they earn. Even the guy playing for the minimum earns more than most people do in 20 years of hard labor.

I guess, but there's also the dozens of guys that are there just for the paycheck, they don't keep themselves fit, they waste away their talents because they just don't care enough...

I appreciate what he did last night. His paycheck reflects what he was worth to us some years back, that's all. He will not be back with the Magic. Probably knows it and will retire happily. He had a good long career, beating the odds because of his hardwork.

He deserves the thanks at least....

overpaid or not, that's just how the business is...

Most people, including myself, do not have the ability to bring in literally millions and millions of dollars to my company just based upon my effort alone.

If I could do something that would possibly result in my employer making $100 million dollars a year, you're darn right I would demand the $5 million a year (or whatever).

But I don't, and likely either do you or 99% of the population.

It's about how much you are valued in relationship to what you bring to the success of the organization.

A very specialized skill set always brings about inequity in salaries. That's part of the free enterprise system.

Of course, the Soviet Union had a much more balanced method of employee compensation under the socialistic philosophy.

Maybe you would prefer that so that you don't feel so slighted?

I don't mean this as any sort of personal attack. I just don't understand why people get so upset and jealous over people who can do things at a level that few in this world can, and get compensated for it.

I'm assuming that you've signed on to a message board for Entertainment Tonight and complained about all the money that the various performers get paid.

Good thing I checked this: I was about to do the same thing. Seems like Garrity's back from whatever alien world that kidnapped him. Good for him and glad to have him back.

LOL. That is my point, he did what he was supposed to do. When I see guys like Jerome James that don't do what they are supposed to it makes me appreciate the players that do. Think about how many players go off in a contract year then settle back into not giving a **** afterwards. Tim Thomas comes to mind, shoot Isiah has a bunch of them on his team. Remember Michael Olawakandi? He played hard for a half a season before his FA, he's not even in the league anymore (thank goodness we weren't able to get him).

Yes it is an easy thing to say that all he has to do is get ready and yes he does make more money than a lot of people will ever see but I think the players that make that money and don't get ready everyday are giving the finger to people that will never see that much money. Pat doesn't do that.

Word out of RDV:

"On the heels of last night's inspired performance by Pat Garrity, Otis has decided to offer a 3 year contract extension to the team's longest tenured player."
