Help !

Recommended Posts

I need some of your opinions.

Most of you are younger than me and have either been to college or are going.

I'm 52 and getting to old to keep doing my job.

I've been a painter {houses,commmercial ,business owner }

I'm looking for a change and am thinking of doing the school thing .

I need input what's availible as far as courses are concerned in today's world.

I've been in the arts all my life and would like to keep in them .

Looking to change careers any info would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS ...J.D.

But beware, you will have to get 10 painting gigs a week to be able to afford it!

Very True, you can always do student loan though. My buddy is going there this year.

Thanks but at 52 and have a family to take care of that would be difficult .

But like I said any info would help me decide what to do.

The web -site showed me some options already and that's what I need .

There are a couple of schools that offer classes at night and online which will allow you to keep your job while you go to school.

I don't know what kind of stuff you are interested in but there is a tech school for different jobs in the medical field called CTI. University of Phoenix is another one.

it depends on what y ou want to do....

if you are looking at something where you can sit, relax and use your mind, look into some type of office career....

as in drafting, or maybe web design....

I am an engineering/surveying drafman and make good money, I am able to be online most of the day and you use your mind, more than anything...

I'm not going to lie to you, it can be stressful, deadlines, budgets, million dollar projects, but if you know what you are doing, it's fine.

There's always other types of drafting that are less stressful, from architectural, to drawing parts, owner's manuals, etc. Everything you see and touch now, was drafted by someone at some point..

If you like the medical field, there's tons of careers to choose from...Respiratory tech, X-ray tech, etc, or you could become a nurse....

Most of this stuff you can study at night. Valencia is a good Community College to start, or you can just go to their guidance counselor and ask. They also have tons of little paphlets of courses and careers you can look into.

I really don't know what jobs are in demand there but as davcivic said you could try to get a job as a Graphics Designer. Depends on what area of specialization in it that you want to pursue. It's a good job for you if you land one, sitting behind a computer and drawing to your heart's content virtually stress-free since you love art. Not too sure how proficient you are with computers, that's the common downfall of the elder folks here in my country. Then again, older people here can't even go to message boards online like you do so I think you'll do just fine.

Like I said though, I have no idea if you can get a job like that easily there. I'm currently looking for the same job here, no luck as of yet...

Good luck on your career change JD! And you're much younger than I expected... I always thought you were 70ish. Silly Magic board myth.
