2023-2024 Season Thread

Knicks rule out Randle for the rest of the season. They might be my favorite potential first round opponent, even if I know the refs are gonna march Brunson to the line 30 times a game

Heat/Rockets is an interesting game tonight. We play the Rockets upcoming and they're dangerously close to having nothing to play for. If the Heat beat them they might be checked out by the time we play them, and obviously if they keep their season alive by beating the Heat that's a W anyway.

So Mac McClung wins G League MVP scoring 25 a game… Is he just not athletic enough to guard players? It’s weird it hasn’t translated to any team he has tried to join

Look up the history of G league MVP.  Only 2 of them have ever been real NBA players and neither of them were guard/wing scorers. It's all well and good scoring 25 points as a number 1 option against worse competition but nobody in the league is ever going to let him be the number 1 option because the bar to be an on ball scorer in the league with any kind of efficiency is super high. Cole Anthony would probably average 30 in the G league.

I’m not suggesting he could score that much in an NBA game ever (though Malachi Flynn scored 50 the other night so who knows). I just wonder why he hasn’t been able to land anywhere as even a rotation or end of bench spot.

Lack of evidence is not evidence. These guys are not allowed to show what they can do in real minutes. Unless there is multiple injuries. Teams are invested in there higher paid players.  And playing time is almost always dictated by contracts not by actual ability.

Mac McClung was with us in preseason. We had three two way contracts to offer and he got none of them. If he looked like he could light up an NBA game in practice why didn't we give him a 2 way? 2 way contracts are all the same value, none of them play anyway, so your "playing time is dictated by contracts" doesn't hold up there. Are you saying there's some nepotistic or conspiratorial reason why Trevelin Queen got a 2 way and McClung didn't? Or is the simplest answer that Magic coaches and executives watched them both play and practice with the team and thought Queen was more talented? The same way several other NBA teams have similarly passed on McClung which is why he's playing for our G league team in the first place.

The idea that there's some conspiracy among NBA teams to deliberately not find and play the best players and instead pay worse players millions of dollars makes zero sense.

Contract amounts don’t dictate playing time? Ok whatever. Last time I checked, coaches and gms get fired every year, so to say they are always correct in their evaluations is incorrect.
