2016-2017 Trade Idea Thread

nah, Gordon just needs time. he turned 21 a month ago. Look at Kawhi, Paul George, corey maggette, Iguodala, Joe Johnson, Millsap, Hedo, Gordon Hayward, Gerald Wallace.

I should say, I'd do that trade now but I don't think it's going to be much of a difference in the future.

Based on what? Not saying I disagree. Just curious to what specifically has made you come to this conclusion.

He shows potential in the ability to do everything on a basketball court and has the athleticism to match. He's just crazy inconsistent right now so the production doesn't show up from quarter to quarter. He wants to be a top wing and is willing to work at it and work with coaches both on the magic and in the offseason to achieve that. We've seen flashes of his power forward potential with the odd 20 and 16 game last year. He's shown flashes of playmaking ability leading the team with assists at half in two out of the four games this year. It gets overlooked by relatively poor team play and the occasional dumb move he makes when he turns the ball over or forces up a dumb shot because the defender attacked his dribble instead of playing passive defense that he expected. But those things improve with reps.

and why do you want to wait when you already have all that in Giannis. If Giannis became available and all they request is Gordon in exchange then I will not even hesitate for a second. I will even throw a pick if needed.

Giannis is a stud and it is Gordon ceiling.

Gordon's incredible athleticism allows him to contribute well at times in almost every game. However, it's become apparent that he's gotten to where he is today purely on his athleticism, not by playing good basketball. That part is a work in progress, Giannis is there already and only 9 months older.

I think that criticism is harsh and off the mark. GA is basically a point small forward, regardless of his height. Meanwhile, AG is a bouncy power forward being asked to move to small forward. Furthermore, AG still has the second best PER on the team right now, even though he's switched positions and obviously struggled.

I can't argue with your opinion. I can argue that Giannis would be a better choice over AG in any imaginable way at this point however. Giannis, by way of what you and I both said, is a basketball player. He touches every aspect of the game and imparts his b-intelligence into the flow. To this point, when AG tries to do that, it stops the flow on offense and on defense either turns into a nice highlight worthy block/steal or into a blown assignment and easy basket for the other team.

I understand that on paper he switched positions, but his issues and role on this team are pretty much the same as they have been all along. He is bouncy, but he moved to the 3 so he could try his hand at more mobile players-he wasn't terribly effective at guarding bigger guys last year. If he is a four, his defensive potential may not be realized as much. He's in the right 'position' now given his tremendous physical attributes on the defensive end and potential on offense. If you thought I was being harsh all I can say is that I didn't realize you were so sensitive. As far as PER goes, SSS for everyone is the first thing that comes to my mind. The second is that 16 is not very good, average at best, just a testament to how balanced (mediocre) our team has been so far.

AG is Shawn Marion.

Him at the 3 is ok for now, Marion played there in the beginning and defended 3's, but Marion is the player AG has always reminded me of. Not Paul George.
