Poll on what to do with Dwight

Dwight Options

70 members have voted

  1. 1. What should the Magic do with Dwight?

    • Magic keep Dwight. "Optimistic Choice" Hold onto Dwight for the duration of his contract, try to convince him to sign long-term contract.
    • Trade Dwight to Brooklyn. "High Road Choice" Would be for Brook Lopez, picks, and filler. Would give Dwight what he wants.
      0
    • Trade Dwight to Houston. "Rebuild Choice" Would net expiring contracts, draft picks, and young players.
    • Trade Dwight to LA Lakers. "The 1:1 Choice" Would trade the NBA's #1 center for the #2 center and filler.
    • Trade Dwight to ________. "The Dark Horse Choice" Send Dwight somewhere else

Houston is the best deal unless somehow the Lakers can convince Houston to be part of a 3 team trade with them for Dwight so we can get a mix of the Houston deal with Bynum.

But you forgot their is also the "Be as Petty as Dwight is route." Which is make him stay all year, then he can leave in free agency for a bunch of crap teams he doesn't want to go to.

I voted for other- Suns send Gortat and huge TPE for Dwight. We get cap space and a center that we all love! 15/10 last year with good "D"

Yeah but now no Nash spoon feeding him wide open baskets.

That's kind of rolled into the "keep him here" option. The operative word in that one is "try" to sign him long term.

Houston, we have a solution.

Whichever team can take Hedo, Duhon and JRich with him, while giving us future draft picks and big expirings is the best option.

And Kevin Martin is not too shabby.

Oh man, yeah: any team that could take all three of those contracts wins.

Assuming the Huston deal includes the raptors pick, its the safest option. Some mid round picks and a few young guys who could pan out to be decent players. Plus I don't think we would place very high so our own pick wouldn't be too bad. That said I voted to not trade Howard because he will have an incentive to re-sign or else lose out on a lot of money. I know a lot of people say he will make that back in other ways but I don't know I think that's a gamble most players don't want to take. If he does re-sign and is not happy about it then I think chemistry might suffer for a season but not much longer. If he takes a pay cut and walks well then hindsight is 20/20 and the Huston trade would have been better I think.

I think it all comes down to weather or not we think Howard would be willing to take a big pay cut or not. Hard call to make.

I voted to keep Dwight. I realize that this is not realistic and that it would take a miracle to get him to sign an extension next Summer. But part of me still wishes it could all work out. It's the same part of me that makes me such a huge fan of the Magic and makes me take this little game of basketball way too seriously. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm with this..

I don't think anyone could fill his role with Magic and I'm far too impatient to sit back and watch a complete rebuild :chairshot:

I'd rather go with my own option:

Have him sit on the bench the entire season so his back could get soft. It will take 2 seasons for him to get back into form, if he ever does.

This is the best choice by far, however the phrasing understates the validity of it.

People think Dwight walking for nothing is worst case scenario. Trading Dwight for bad assets that maintain Orlando's cap space hell that leaves them with no flexibility is worse than letting Dwight walk and having cap space to make smart decisions. Orlando is better off having that cap space than paying Brook Lopez a max contract.

As for the subject of Dwight possibly staying, while I still wouldn't count on it, there is a growing chance it could happen. Most of the contenders like Brooklyn/LA/New York/Chicago are already maxed out. Then there's Dallas and Atlanta who may have the cap space, but may not have a very attractive supporting cast.

I lean towards this option too, but maybe we are just being a bit vindictive. As far as other teams, I would like to see him go to the TimberWolves so he can learn to ice fish. Or maybe to the Jazz so he can go hiking in the desert. Or to Portland, just because. Whatever, I am tired of overpaid whiners and just want him gone.
