Orlando Magics history of failure in the clutch moments

Recommended Posts

Let's go back to 1995

Game 1 of the NBA finals.

Nick Anderson bricks several free throws, this sequence took the Magic from being the team heavily favored to win the series, into a psychological death blow they could not recover from.

2009 NBA finals

Game 2.

After rallying back from a blowout in a game 1 loss, the Magic were poised to steal game 2 in LA, after Hedo Turkoglu's blocked shot on Kobe Bryant.

The Magic run a misdirection, everyone is looking for the Howard oop, or the Lewis catch and shoot, instead Courtney Lee breaks open, Hedo Turkoglu throws the lob Lee catches, but misses the layup. Orlando loses in OT.

Game 4,

The Magic are once again up late in the game, once again free throws rear their ugly head as Dwight Howard amongst others misses several crucial foul shots. This gives LA a chance to tie, and the coach inexplicably has a rusty Jameer Nelson on the court, who fails to recognize LA can only tie with a 3, he backs off Fisher, Fisher nails the 3. the rest is history

Last night.

Orlando gets a wide open 3, Ryan Anderson gets a wide open rebound, and clanks the putback. Orlando loses in yet another demonstration of poor clutch performance late in games.

The Magic have a black cloud hovering over this franchise that appears to cause them to fail in the clutch moments

Don't forget the preseason game from 3 years ago where we gave up a 19 point lead and lost the game by 5.

Ohhh and don't panic!

that was not just a ....ing layup!!! there were fractions of the second left, difficult angle and 7 footer illegally challending Lee...

Its all that Nick Andersons fault, if he would have just made those free throw. Started this whole failure thing off.

Without Nick Anderson we could have lost to Celtics in the first round...there were two very difficult games in Boston we won and Anderson hit clutch shots in those games...ok we probably would beat Celtics anyway but no way we would beat Bulls without him, without his defense on MJ and great shooting, especially in game 6...

Have we thought of Tebowing....it is the only sure way to break this spell. If the whole arena would start naked Tebowing we surely would win a championship (maybe out of forfeit).

Maybe we should have traded for lopez and have very low expectations

In a 20+ year history in the league, 4 games lost in the final moments means exactly nothing.

Were down 3 at home in the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals against Boston. Vince Carter is fouled with 30 seconds left, goes to the line and......

It does when 3 of those are in the Finals

No, it really doesn't. You honestly think there is a link between C.Lee missing a difficult play, Dwight missing free throws, and Nick Anderson missing free throws almost 15 years earlier?
