Could be the end for a lot of guys

Recommended Posts

I'm not so sure we need a lock down defender at the 4 but someone capable of grabbing the rebound when Howard goes for the block. Zach definitely fits that bill. My argument has to do on offense. It's like when Shaq went to LA and had Elden Campbell playing next to him. Campbell was ineffective so they traded him to the Hornets where he played much better. Howard needs Horace Grant, not Elden Campbell.

I agree that JR is an upgrade over JRich but I'm skeptical on how well we will do with SVG.

Here is a list of FA for 2011 (and 2012): http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-11-12

I would not mind Pryzbilla as a backup to Dwight or Greg Oden. Carl Landry, NENE Hilario, YAO (imagine YAO playing center and moving Dwight to the 4), Shane Battier (perfect @ the 3), Prince, Pietrus, there's enough guys to add to the team that could improve us immediately.

I can imagine Yao playing next to Dwight..........for all of 5 games until he got hurt again

After what Zach is doing for Memphis, we aren't getting him. Look elsewhere fellas.

I dont think anyone thinks we are?

I haven't seen AK47 mentioned

----

I wonder if Utah would make either of these trades to allow Favors to develop since he is now playing behind Milsap, Jefferson and Okur all on sizable contracts

JJ + Anderson + Bass = Milsap + Bell

or

JJ + Anderson + Bass + Q + Duhon = Milsap + Okur (this would also relieve Utah of Okur's contract which they really want to dump - plus they fill their back up pg/g/sf which are all free agents this yr)

Nelson/Arenas

Bell/Q

Hedo/Q

Milsap/____

Howard/____

or

Nelson/Arenas

____/____

Hedo/_____

Milsap/_____

Howard/Okur

Milsap won't be a big upgrade over Bass if he gets like 10 shots a game. Nelson needs to go, so is Hedo. I hope we get Battier, CP3, a young guard/forward and a backup center for Nelson, JJ, Hedo, Anderson, Q-Rich and Duhon

CP3/Arenas

Jrich/Arenas/young guard

Battier/?

Bass/Clark

D12/backup

(long read)

We really need less of.. Otis trying to build a FANTASY basketball roster that gets lots of stats on paper.. and get a TEAM. Dwight needs big guy help, and REAL big guy help.. Brandon Bass just doesn't count. Even though Anderson is scrappy, we'd be best off if Anderson & Redick were coming off the bench and providing sparks.. that is, if we can find a REAL starter at PF to make that happen.

Also in general we just need more guys with monster intangibles. Glue guys. More Quentin Richardsons, J.J. Redick, & Matt Barneses of the world, and less Arenas & Hedos. What I mean is guys who go out there and speak with their actions, who want to do the dirty work it takes to win the big games. Not SAY they want to win a championship because it's easy to say, but the truth is all they give a crap about is collecting a paycheck, getting their minutes, and getting their shots.

To put it simply, we need defensive-minded guys who are defensive-minded WITHOUT Stan yelling at them about it, rather than offensive-minded guys.

What Otis doesn't seem to get is attitude matters. Chemistry matters. A player's mentality.. matters.

We went all in since the VC trade.. made a long-term window a short one. Well guess what, they crapped out. Gotta find a way around not being able to let Rashard's contract expire in 2012 now, rebuild on the fly. But Otis has made doing so tougher on himself. I have no clue how he's gonna pull this off, but...

1. Dwight needs help. I like Anderson now and going forward, I like Clark going forward. But the Magic need a real, SOLID, starting PF. Not necessarily an All Star. We need "Horace Grant." We need dependable. We need reliable. We need night in, night out. Brandon Bass is none of those things.

2. Oh yeah, we need some sort of 6'11", warm body of a backup center. We don't need Gortat back, just someone who can let Dwight rest for 10 or 12 minutes of the game. Preferably someone who can just stand their ground in the paint, unlike say.. Tony Battie? But just a warm body nonetheless.

3. This bit is extremely difficult and I'm not sure it can be done this summer, but we gotta get a real, last five minutes of the game, go to perimeter scorer for those times Dwight can't get it done in the post, if he's a bad free throw slump, whatever. Someone who commands a double team or he torches you... especially if we let J-Rich walk, and Hedo is not that man. Hedo should be a secondary distributor, perhaps even just a sixth man, but he certainly is not the Robin to Dwight's Batman, and I don't think Jameer can on a championship level. Quite frankly I'm not sure Arenas can ever be that either. Not on the level the Magic need to win it all.

Basically, Magic need a SERIOUS upgrade at PF, and another one at SG/SF. While being over the salary cap.

Good luck, Otis!

I could get on board with the whole "Hedo, JJ, and Ryno off the bench." We need Prince or someone very much like him: shut down defender who's smart, can rebound, and even score 10-15 a night pretty consistently. Someone who can guard 1-4.

We definitely need someone like a Kendrick Perkins to spell Dwight. Not someone that can score 100 points a night, just someone that keeps the other team from blowing up the score while Dwight's out of the paint. Right now, Dwight sits and it's open-season on the paint.

Milsap won't be a big upgrade over Bass if he gets like 10 shots a game.

Milsap even though he puts up 4.5 more shot attempts than Bass is still a more efficient shooter and he can finish near the rim better. Most importantly he is a much better and willing passer and less turnover prone - to compare Bass had an assist rate of 6.75 Milsap 14.58, Bass assist/turnover ratio was .59 and Milsap was 1.29. Plus even though Milsap averaged 10 more mpg he still averaged out statistically as a slightly better rebounder and shot blocker than Bass. Millsap is also a blue collar type hustle guy same as Bass but Milsap's PER 19.83: Bass 15.99.

The key to this transaction idea is the passing and ability to finish inside off the dribble if the jumper isn't there, one of the big problems with our offense is that at the 4 spot the ball movement always stops; its either no pass Bass or hoping Anderson's streaky shooting is on - either way when the ball gets to the 4 thats nearly always the end of the possession and this season and vs Atlanta we saw how easily the single dimension power forward offense is to defend and if they aren't making that single dimension shot its possession lost.

This transaction would also take the secondary scorer away from the wing positions so that whomever we get to fill or replace that hole does not have to be a secondary scorer but a defensive specialist - something sorely missed. Millsap is a legitimate offensive threat (can and has been able to handle role of a secondary scorer and this year primary - something neither Bass or Anderson will likely ever be) and a perfect fit in a high/low post game with Dwight.

It is unlikely Utah gets rid of Millsap though, a lot probably depends on the draft specifically if their best available options (they have 2 lottery picks) is another big then Milsap's contract and that we would take on Okurs contract could be a slight opening.

Kendrick Perkins isn't/wasn''t easy to get at all. Which other big do you think could come here at a reasonable price? I don't think there are many.

If the Magic continue to go strong after Paul, what if the Magic try and have Okafor thrown in that mix? I realize he has a bad contract, but that could be a potential deadly duo.

Or if the Magic go after a player like Prince or Rip Hamilton, see if the Magic can throw in a player like Greg Monroe who even though he is a rookie, is a really solid player and could give us that young core that we want to see so bad.

Of course all of this relies upon the new CBA and instead of seeing an All-Star team formed like the Heat or Knicks. I'd love to see a "TEAM" formed like Skywise suggested. A team like the Thunder or the Celtics or the Pistons from the Billups, Wallaces, Prince, Hamilton days...those are the types of teams that win championships and with Dwight as our center piece of that team, it needs to be a defensive minded, collectively aggressive team that shows no fear - like the Grizzlies are right now.
