Magic search for ways to stop Hawks perimeter game

Recommended Posts

"We want to make them do something else," Howard said. "Jamal Crawford shot a lot of jump-shots; we didn't force him to get the ball to the basket and try to finish; same thing with Joe Johnson, with the floaters from far away and jump-shots. We've gotta make those guys do different things."

"What we've got to do, I think, is do a better job of taking away their space to get the pull-ups," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We've gotta get our help to them a little bit earlier and try to keep them out on the perimeter a little bit more."

TIDBITS from Zach McCann of the O-Sen :

* J.J. Redick reported Sunday afternoon that he felt fine after he played 18-plus minutes Saturday in his first game back after missing over a month because of a lower abdominal strain.

* Howard was comfortable against the Hawks' rotating group of big men. "I wasn't frustrated at all; not from a standpoint of them bringing in guys," Howard said. "That's what I wanted them to do."

* Van Gundy said the Hawks are looking to go straight at Redick and Ryan Anderson when they're on the floor. The Magic need their offense, though, so they'll have to find a way to adapt.

* Van Gundy said he hasn't considered playing Earl Clark, the young Magic forward who occasionally was used as a short-term defensive specialist during the regular season.

After watching the Lakers and Spurs lose their 1st game on the homecourt I'm not feeling as concerned.

We'll be back !!!

GO MAGIC !!!!!

Stan is a smart coach who has always been able to make smart adjustments that lead us to success. I'm not worried about this series at all. Excited as hell for Tuesday!!

I for one am worried and will continue to be worried until the Magic end a game with the higher score. Thats the mentality I don't want to our players to have. A "don't worry", the Lakers and Spurs dropped their home games too" mentality. This shows that great teams lose starting games in the series possibly recover but that doesn't mean they will. You don't count out the opponent until that number four hits the dash.

I agree. Seeing everyone else lose actually makes me more nervous. We don't want to be complacent.

I doubt the Magic even know the outcome of the other playoff series. In his interview before the playoffs, Jameer didn't even know the Hawks were on a six game skid. I think that's the best thing for this team right now. Don't worry about the rest of the league, just focus on the Hawks.

How could you possibly equate the knowledge of both?

I am saying that the team is focused on what they are doing and not what the rest of the league is doing. Jameer was surprised to hear that the Hawks had lost six games to end the season. This means he (and the rest of the team) would probably be surprised to hear anything outside of what he is focusing on right now, which is the Hawks.

I'll bet that Stan intentionally keeps other teams' news outside of his locker room to keep that focus in his team.

What I'm saying is that a hawks six-game slide in the regular season is totally different from knowing who's winning/losing in the playoffs. Especially with upsets on SA and LAL. Even if they dont watch the news or even read up on it, I'm sure friends/family are texting it to them, regardless if Stan allows it in their locker room.
