Nyce_1 311 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 People, we know Grant wants to play a year, or two and that might be in Detroit. How would you feel if we S&T Grant for Carlos Delfino? IMO, this guy is like a healthier Turk, lol. He can SHOOT, penetrate, pass, and has better D than Turkey. If we were able to get him in a trade involving Grant, I'd be excited and wouldn't mind giving up Turk for one of our other FAs. He also has good size (6'6") to play either wing position. Not to forget his ball handling skills are above avg. Speaking of FAs, I think Delfino will compliment any of them we bring in; as well as fitting right in with our team and uptempo play. Meer/Dooling Vince/JJ Delfino/Ariza or Meer/Dooling Delfino/JJ Lewis/Ariza or Meer/Dooling Delfino/JJ Wallace/Ariza Why would Detroit do this? Well, if they get Grant, they'll have to cut minutes from Delfino and Murray. So, I figure/hope Joe D. would look to move one of them to get Grant. I also think they'll be over the cap so the only way they can sign Grant is in a S&T. And let's not forget they have 2 picks in the first round this year so they'll be looking get those players PT also. What do you guys think? Pistons fans, do you think Joe D. will go for it? Nyce_1 311 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 After thinking about it, I'm really liking this idea. As much as I'd like to get 2 of the top 3 FAs, our tax thrshold will be ugly in a few yrs having 4 players making 10+ million. I say get 1 FA, and S&T Grant for Delfino. Carlos is young and can join our "core". He'll also be cheaper than Turk and can do everything just as well. Here's to our future: Meer/Dooling/Travis Vince/JJ/Bogans Delfino/Ariza/draft Darko/Tony/Augustine/draft Dwight/Pollard/Gortat When Vince retires, Ariza will be "that guy" we rely on and Delfino can move up to the SG position. D-BoFats 5 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 I'm not in the position to judge Carlos Delfino, because I rarely see him play, but his stats look terrible. Even if we did get him, starting him over Ariza would be ri-dam-diculously wrong.

Their coach stuck with a short rotation and their fans hated him for it because Delfino rarely got a chance. I'd say he start over Trevor because NOW he is better due to the simple fact, he can shoot, he's a better passer, and just as athletic as Trevor. Trevor better be working on that shot if he wants to take a leap next season.
morlegend 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 how do you sign one of the coveted FA's and still get delfino? MLE? how much will delfino want?
morlegend 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2007 btw, if the deal can be done, i also like it. he'd make for a good backup.

Well, regardless of what FA we sign (via S&T), we'll be a little under the cap after we resign Darko. Because of that, S&T Grant for Delfino ($1.3M) will only count a little against the cap. Not to mention we'll still have some capspace AND the MLE to sign other players.

ThisIsTheYear 241 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 Carlos is a nice player and great off the bench, but don't compare him to Turk. Hedo brings a lot more to the table then most credit him for.
Robert56 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 I think he would be a good addition to the Magic. The first year Carlos played for the Pistons he got injured and wasn't able to play too much. Prior to his injury he was playing pretty good. He provides the Pistons with a lot of energy off the bench but doesn't get played that much which is why his stats aren't too good. There is another thing that is a plus with Carlos...he has already played with both Darko and Arroyo, so he knows a bit more about their way of playing and would be able to adjust to the team better than VC or anyone else coming on board. If he's gone and Grant leaves too, then I'm all for trying to get Delfino here to fill that hole. IMO, he has a better shot than Turk but lacks a post up game. His dribble is better too and he's 3 yrs younger. If we can keep Turk while picking up Vince, GOOD, if not, here's another option.
