Not sure if he's get traded to save cash at that point, or if they'd hold onto a 2.4 (times two I guess) million dollar safety plan.

Hinrich is not a possibility. The TPE is at $6.8 mill, and 125% + $100k is not enough to cover Hinrich's salary. We'd have to give up 2 players and we are trying to build depth, not open up a new hole somewhere else. Gortat wouldn't be available with a 2 for 1 trade until June 30 unless a third team gets involved. At any rate, $9.5 million over the next 3 years is a lot for a backup Point (and also probably a backup 2, but I like Pietrus there).

 

If we sign Ratliff and Hendrix to cheap contracts, we'll have Gortat, a $6.8 million TPE, and the rest of the MLE to find a wing and a back up point guard, I'd say this roster will round itself out just fine.

 

Just an example for fun...

 

A Gortat + TPE + pick for Battier + Lowry (it works if Houston will bite, using 3 non-simultaneous trades) would make me cry.

Lewis/Bass/Anderson

Battier/Pietrus/Lewis

Carter/Pietrus/JJ
