ESPN's Daily Dime: "Magic Missing Effective Turkoglu"

Recommended Posts

Tim Legler sees what everyone else sees ... an ineffective Turk.

quote:
PHILADELPHIA -- What were the Orlando Magic missing in the 96-94 Game 3 loss here Friday to the Philadelphia 76ers, the key factor that had helped them to a 59-win season?

Try the real Hedo Turkoglu.

The Magic's sweet-shooting forward just doesn't seem to have it. We asked about the status of his previously injured ankle before the game, but the Magic downplayed the idea that it was a problem. But you could see it on a number of plays in going to the rim that he's not getting the lift you need to finish strongly. He had many fruitless drives to the basket when Orlando needed one, going 2-for-12 from the field along with five turnovers.

What we are seeing is the real hedo, he is just missing all those crazy shots he used to be missing. He struggles against athetic wings, and well Iggy is vert athetic, Peaches needs to be getting more of Hedo's minutes, the playoffs are about adjustments, and until we make the adjustment on Iggy we cant win this. Because Iggy can win this series on his own.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Pietrus with aprox. 36 minutes + Hedo with aprox. 22 minutes = Magic WIN. Stan needs to trust Rafer handling the ball more. Then shoot, even Pietrus can do better than 2 of 12 shooting, and the point is Pietrus can at least make Iggy work. Hedo simply can't, especially gimped up.

Honestly I was lookin at some game film from last year and honestly Hedo looked in shape and leaner last year compared to this year... This year he looks kinda overweight and slow and very very very out of shape ... What did happen to Hedo in the off season???

For those of you that have aleady posted, "give Pietrus more minutes", Tim Legler agrees with you...

quote:

Orlando has yet to have a complete team performance in this series, and that's what I expect to see in Game 4. The Magic are due. It might mean Mickael Pietrus getting more minutes in place of Turkoglu.

I'm in agreement with all...give Pietrus more minutes...especially at the end of games if we need a defensive stop on Iguodala...even if it means substituing Turk and Pietrus in and out for defensive reasons.

Hedo was hurt, but he shouldn't have taken so many shots. Rashard was hot in the 4th and Lee has shown that he can score points.

But SVG must hate Pietrus, because he didn't want to send him out there to replace Turk when he couldn't defend or score.

I'm going to give Hedo the benefit of the doubt and say that ankle is bothering him a lot more than we were led to believe. I honestly think we should "rest" him because even if we do pull out this series I don't think we could beat Boston or Chicago in the second round with Hedo not 100% and playing the way he is.

He's not really doing anything out there to help us win, if anything he's hurting us more than he's helping us at this point, so I can't see how him sitting out the rest of the series would be that bad. The risk is we lose the series(which we could anyway with Turk playing) the reward is we get the team back that handed Lebron James his worst defeat as a professional heading into round 2.
