In his mock we get Keyonte George and Anthony Black. And look, I like Anthony Black quite a bit, I think he's got a shot to be a solid NBA player, possibly even a very good one. But if we pass on Jett twice I might lose my mind. Keyonte I'm happy with. I hope management had their fill of guys with bird nest hair that gets in their eyes while they shoot. This is a nice draft class...excited of having two " high / medium" 1st rounds picks coming to join two star players in Paolo and Franz.

Hmmm… Yea a lot of guys play the game with school years to give themselves the best chance to dominate. It's pretty crazy seeing the array of ages among freshman. Cam Whitmore for example, is not even 19. Brandon Miller is a year and a half older than him. Paolo Banchero is basically the same age as Miller (he's 10 days older than him). It's not really something to worry about massively but I do think when you're splitting hairs between prospects it has to count for something.
CTMagicUK 1,483 Report post Posted January 20, 2023 (I posted recently that I think we might end up trading this year's 2nd but for arguments sake let's say we don't so I have a reason to care about some of the 2nd round prospects) I like Marcus Sasser as a 2nd round guy. Senior PG. 4 years at Houston where they always get after it on defense. Can shoot it (career 36% on over 600 attempts and 80% FT) and a low turnover guy. Not a big time passer or anything but generally just smart, safe plays. Would be a solid fit as an off ball guard in lineups where Paolo/Franz are handling the ball. We worked him out last draft but he went back to school (looks a good decision they're the #1 team in the country at the moment). Plus we drafted his uncle so that's a nice generational thing.
fan for too long 2 531 Report post Posted January 20, 2023 His uncle Jeryl was a great defender too. Couldn’t shoot a lick.
CTMagicUK 1,483 Report post Posted January 21, 2023 https://theboxandone.substack.com/p/mid-season-risers-jett-howard A mid season Jett scouting report. Of particular note is the section that discusses how when Franz was a prospect one of the knocks they had on him was he never went left but he quickly proved he could in the NBA and that essentially Michigan scheme their offense to have their best playmaker coming off screens to their right so that's not necessarily a knock on Jett. jmmagicfan 302 Report post Posted January 23, 2023 So according to mock drafts and big boards he is somewhere around 40-45, but I wouldn't mind reaching for Oscar Tsiebwe, the center from Kentucky with our second round pick. His reasons for going that late/low seem to be that he is short for a center (6'9"), he's older than most (23.2) other seniors, and he doesn't shoot the 3, ever. However, with a second round he does tick a lot of boxes for us. His 7'4" wingspan compensates for his height, he's 260 pounds of rebounding specialist, his age fits our team, and we don't need him to shoot the 3 with our second team. He's a 58% finisher from 2pt land.

He's solid enough and he plays hard but I just feel like he's destined to be a situational bench big because he's 6'9 but isn't really quick on the perimeter so there's a chance he gets attacked both inside by bigger guys and on the perimeter by quicker guys. EDIT2: saying that though the same can be said of one of my favourite 2nd round guys Trayce Jackson-Davis. (I think Trayce has much more offensively utility than Oscar though personally)

As I said earlier it took Cal till mid January to figure who to play …hence Oscar had that monster night the other day …look for him to have more now …I wouldn’t say it’s over yet …even if he doesn’t he’s already won it once …hard to repeat Anyway, they way we’ve struggled lately rebounding even with WCJ …and struggled in crucial situations in games …I agree with jmmagicfan …certainly could use him …guy is also high character …like a pastor …is highly beloved and sells tickets
jmmagicfan 302 Report post Posted January 23, 2023 So, if I'm being "semi-greedy", and settling for us just being lucky enough to get the #2 pick, my ideal draft would probably be: Scoot Henderson #2 PG Gradey Dick SF or Jett Howard SG with the Bulls pick Oscar Tshiebwe with the second round (#35?) pick. I would like to see us open up some roster space and/or bring in a veteran backup PG or backup C using Ross, Bamba, Hampton, or Cole Anthony. I still prefer to give Suggs more time to develop, and I'm hopeful Okeke will finally get healthy.
