2016 Off-Season Thread

If you read between the lines it seems as of now the starters are going to be EP Evan AG Ibaka and Vuc. Hearing Rob saying things like Green gives us depth and to have the ability to have a shot blocker on the floor at all times, leads me to believe that Green and Biz will come off the bench. Meeks an Mario will fight for minutes.

Green just finished a season where he was playing 27 mpg for what is ostensibly a contender in the western conference.

Prior to last year, Meeks averaged 21+ mpg for five consecutive seasons then demanded a trade when an injury forced him from the rotation.

You think these guys are going to be cool with emergency minutes?

Meeks is an expiring that got traded for a Hot Pocket. He offers shooting and nothing else. If Hezonja takes the step up we want there arent minutes for him. If Hezonja takes time then you ride Meeks until he is ready.

I think its easier to find time for Green with injuries/foul trouble.

I don't think PFTW can put it any more plainly. The fit of this team right now is not going to work. Our offseason is not over. Do the math. It isn't just Meeks and CJ that won't get minutes with the current lineup. Biyombo and Vuc will each have to settle for less than 25 minutes, or Hezonja will have to settle for 15, or Green only be getting 15, and maybe some combination of the 2. None of those things are likely to happen, unless we've given up on Hezonja, which I doubt. CJ is a guy who gets minutes because of injuries. Meeks is a guy who can handle big minutes in case of injuries. Green is being paid $15 million. He's getting at least 25 minutes a night, regardless of injuries. Biyombo is getting paid $17 million per for 4 years. He's getting 25 minutes a night, regardless of injuries. Ibaka is the guy we traded our best player for. He's getting 34 minutes per night, every night he's healthy. Gordon is clearly part of this teams future plans. He's getting at least 28 minutes per night. The frontcourt is too damn crowded.

You know, I've been thinking about the whole "small ball" thing in the NBA and have come to the conclusion that there's one team that does it well (and I mean really well) and that's the GS Warriors. Teams may try to replicate it, and have the ability to do it with some success for short spurts, but no other team in the NBA really comes close to doing what the Warriors do night in and night out. That being said, why fall into the trap of trying to replicate something that requires talent that frankly no other team in the NBA has? I mean especially now with Durant on board, the Warriors literally have 3 of the top six or seven shooters in the league and no other team even comes close to matching that. My point here is, there's lots of ways to win the NBA and one of them is to defend and keep teams from scoring. All these writers quoted seem so confused about the Biyombo signing but I think what we're seeing here is an organization saying we're going to go in a different direction and see if we can't forge our own way to win in the NBA rather than try to replicate what is working for one team with a very unique group of talent. I for one love that we aren't falling into that trap, and who knows, maybe two or three years from now we will be viewed as the new trend setters in the NBA.

small ball works because teams bigs are slow and can't guard little guys these days, Rob is a genius... before the summer started I was hoping the magic to get Biyombo, and holy sht we did... we got the chief!!!! no one was expecting the ibaka trade, on top of that you got Green, one of the most versatile forwards out there.... why do we stock pile ibaka, biyomo, gordon and green... yes... to guard curry lebron durrant paul george butler carmello type of players... in the playoffs its all about the matchups... if you can counter them and be strong at defending switches, chances are you are going to be very good and competitive... vogel said they were going to build a monsterous defensive team... i will be surprised if we are not top 3 defense this year for real....

Trading Vuc might help the front court issue, but it isn't gonna solve the minute issue in the backcourt. For now we have depth, and that's a good thing.

Vuc trade would give Ibaka more time at 5, Gordon more time at 4, which would give more time at 3 for Hezonja freeing up 2 time for Meeks.

So we'd have to be trading Vuc for picks or a PG, because anything else of equal value at SG,SF,PF, or C keeps us too deep.

I say we just keep VUC as a backup and don't play Meeks all that much.

Would we be better off if we didn't do the dipo trade since we got Bis anyway..vuc and his would.fit well next to each other..guess there's a few facors..trusting Mario, more comfortable resigning Serge than dipo? Really wanted to emphasize inside defense..
