random 19 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 I think you missed the point of his post. I thought it was obvious I was joking, by predicting player's career based on his sumer league performance. I think Eskobar and junkie got into your head. :)
Catman 380 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 Another thing about NBA shooting % - even the first couple months, the shots just are not falling at the rate they do later in the season. Its fascinating to see after 3-4 months of hardcore play how much better team's shots get. Anyway, we all know this, but it puts summer league in perspective. For sure, was just reading article on Magic website and I think we can see some first hand examples of how FG/3PT% can improve: The Magic do not employ a ``shooting coach,’’ but instead attacks fundamental flaws as an entire staff. Vaughn pointed to the improvements that Harkless made from his first season to his second season as an example of how the Magic coaching staff can fix a player’s form. Assistant coach Brett Gunning worked primarily with Harkless, getting him to release the ball higher and quicker, and those changes saw him go from a 27.4 percent 3-point shooter in 2012-13 to a 38.3 percent 3-point shooter in 2013-14. CTMagicUK 1,491 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 According to DX Gordon is on pace to be one of the top 10 worst Summer League performers (by PER) ever. Obviously Summer League isn't very often indicative of future success but that's still pretty troubling.
Fultz4thewin 2,464 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 Do they list the top 10? Would be interesting to see who they are and how they turned out. Orton was the worst. On the positive side, ibaka, batum, George hill, Larry sanders, Shaun Livingston, Eric Bledsoe, omri casspi, and grievous Vasquez all had a PER of less than 8. Givony basically concluded that PER has no conclusion to success for young raw players but means a bit more when looking at the older players. @DraftExpress: There are some outliers of course. Batum, Ibaka, Bledsoe were all extremely young (19 or 20). Certainly not the end all be all. But still... @DraftExpress: Rudimentary conclusion: Playing well at summer league doesn't always mean much. But playing very poorly can be a concern for older guys? Kind of makes sense, since you expect the younger players to have a higher upside. Most of your top draft picks are not playing SL by the time they are 22 or 23, so the older guys who are playing are usually lower picks, who stayed in college and are, presumably, closer to their ceilings. CTMagicUK 1,491 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 B. Gordon already seems to be getting along with the young guys (didn't know where to put this we don't have a "offseason" thread)
