If they do that trade and amnesty Boozer, they should have enough cap space to get Melo. Would that trade fly with CBA rules, or would we have to add another player? I like it if it can happen.

The cap hold for the #12 pick, plus the 16 and 19 they already have, is about $5M, while Gibson makes $8M. If the Bulls want Melo, they're going to have to trade Gibson away for future picks or nonguaranteed second rounders.

Or trade for a non-guaranteed contract like Nelson, whom they could wave to clear major money, with a pick or players on rookie deals. (See my OP). That would save them 6mm+.

My understanding is it would have to be to a team under the cap to completely clear his salary.

I wouldn't give anything up for Gibson. He's older than Afflalo and in my opinion his potential impact isn't worth paying him 8 million a year for the next 3 years. I'd take him off Chicago's hands for nothing if they wanted to give him away to clear up cap space but that's about it and I think they'd get better offers.
