2014 Summer Trade Proposal Thread

Recommended Posts

I was reading the Sixers forum and came across something very intriguing.

Klay Thompson is the guy that I have more mixed feelings about in the NBA. I think the Warriors are pretty dumb if they refused to include him in a deal for Kevin Love, knowing that Klay will be getting max offers left and right. I'm not sure if giving Klay a max offer would be a smart move for the Warriors, they would need him to be very impactful on both sides of the court and I think he lacks that true star power. They could've also gone all-in for Curry-Love, with Iguodala - who's not getting any younger - helping on the defensive end.

With that said, one man's trash might be another man's treasure, and I think Klay Thompson could really help our team (or the Sixers), even if we had to overpay him. It would be smart in the sense that making Rashard Lewis our highest paid player was smart, same with Parsons and the Mavericks. We have the right pieces to surround Klay with, we have three defense first guys who have strong personalities and could help Klay with his passiveness issues. He's also a terrific 3 point shooter, and we need that badly.

PG: Payton

SG: Oladipo

SF: Klay Thompson

PF: Aaron Gordon

C: Nikola Vucevic

That's a team I'd be very excited about

Not the worst idea in the world. If you are going to overpay a guy, it's good to pick one that doesn't have a part of his game that is below average.

I really can't understand why anyone has an issue with the Ben Gordon signing. I think pretty much everyone is aware that by overspending for Gordon we were still way under the cap floor for the season. With that in mind, the only conclusion I can come up with is that some fans are concerned that the Magic are going to bill the cost of his contract to season ticket holders homes. Unless someone here is planning on cutting Ben Gordon a check, you have no reason to complain about this.

The move just does nothing to give the team any sense of (positive) direction or identity. On paper, strictly speaking, you're correct.

Before FA our biggest need was shooting. All FA's we added are good shooters, including one Ben Gordon. We need to put shooters around our young players to spread the floor for them. We did that with every FA move this off season.

Until we actually see how the signing translates to the court, the only arguments that can be made are "on paper". How can we know if the signing will be positive or good for the team identity until we see the team on the court?

I agree from a production standpoint; the issue with Gordon is that I was under the impression that rob and co were building an organization based upon character and culture. Gordon specifically has a reputation for lacking locker room character, though I obviously am not in the locker room so I really don't know better. From the viewers perspective I do admit that I see a player who pouts a lot and doesn't act like a vet leader should act, thus questioning his impact on culture. maybe it was all perception and he will be a model citizen for all our young guns. from a skill perspective, he sucks now. It would be nice if he found his shot, but with little usage I imagine he will find it tough to find a rhythm. frye is soft; iim sure he's a great person to talk to but aside from shooting open threes he's worthless. I am not being a naysayer, but the moves made are questionable at the least, and if this ship sinks I think rob should be held accountable, that is all. I am eager to praise however, and would like nothing more than for my concerns to be quashed.

You might be right on Gordon, but you are way off on Frye.

Please expound how I am way off on Frye, he is what he's always been: a three point shooting specialist. We'll, if you count 37% a specialty of course. Great guy, but as a player??

So, an article that takes most of his weaknesses, acknowledges them, then gives some reasons why he could be worse at them. The summary of the article confirms that he's a floor spacer through and through. For that kind of money we may as well have held onto Ryno and gotten some rebounding, spacing, and good team dynamic-no? I don't disagree with that article at all, nor do I dislike Frye...it's still a head scratcher. Not as much as Gordon though.
