Otis considered one of the "Struggling GM's" of the NBA

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen JJ struggling on the court for the time that he's been there. No more than I've seen other rookies have turnovers or miss assignments. I'd actually say that given the minutes played he has shown to be above average particulalry in an understanding of the game.

true, but did you notice how he was closely guarded even without the ball?

See Fendi - you are stating an obvious reason why JJ should play. If a defender is right up on him and concerned about him then you open up the floor for other players where you don't open up the floor so much when he isn't in there. If they want to shut JJ down then they open up other opportunities for other players and if they give JJ room, which, agreed they haven't then JJ will knock some shots down - if he could just get some playing time and not worry about being benched for the next 6 games with only 2 minutes combined of playing time for those 6 games - the guy can't play freely under BHill and he can't get any rythym going under BHill as he doesn't get any kind of consistent minutes.

JJ was the right pick this year without a doubt and I think everyone knows if he ever plays consistenly he will be effective.

As for Fran Vasquez the only way I can defend that is that is what Otis was trying to do to pair with Dwight. That is why he later got Darko. Fran and Dwight were his original twin towers. I do not know much about how prevelant it was that Fran would not come to the US but the guy I really would have liked to see was Danny Granger.

We are discussing an artice from this guy? here was how he started out his answer to me. "Actually I'm not a journalist at all, I'm a fan of the game who watches it about 10 hours a day and writing is just a hobby." This Nick Obergan is a real loser.

Are you serious!!!! He probably is a NC fan and a wannabee. I cannot believe that someone would publish an article like that. I mean thats like believing the rags that claim little green men have landed on earth. I am happy though because I spend at least 12 hours a week watching basketball so that makes me a more believable expert. What a dud that guy is.

A tabloid journalist at his best. Just shows you that everyone thinks their an expert. Its sad that someone is allowed to use the internet as a media to make judgements on people because they watch basketball on TV for a few hours a week. I challenge him to debate against our board with the knowledgable group we have here. I am sure mister Obergan would end up looking like the fool he is. I wonder if he will make legal judgements because he watches Judge Judy every week?

I strongly believe Otis' hands are tied by the powers at RDV right now. He has to say the right thing by them. Consider this

-Fran was Brian's pick , not Otis'.

-JJ does not play because of Brian.

-Otis did not hire Brian, and because of the RDV/arena/PR situation, cannot fire him.

-Rumor has it, and this is RUMOR only, that Brian did not want VC. Otis could not make a trade for him at the deadline.

-What is the point of Otis making a small trade at the deadline, if he knows that the problem is NOT the players? Our team and players are underachieving, due to Brian Hill, thus their trade value is low right now.

-Otis has made some really good trades. Brian Hill is the one who made them look less than great. Why didn't he start Darko until Battie got hurt? Wasted development right there!

-Otis signed Bogans for less than what he was going to sign Deshawn for. At the time, Bogans and DS had VERY similar stats.

-Battie may make too much, but we do have a very young team that needs this kind of veteran leadership. We also would be very lacking in the frontcourt without a backup for D&D. Who would sub in? Bo? Garrity?

-Otis has always been know to throw up smoke screens. Just look at his quotes in the paper before and after each trade deadline for documented proof. He says what he has to say to keep his team focused. If he said, "We will look at Brian Hill in the offseason and determine where to go," that would REALLY distract the players. At least Otis threw us a bone with his quote about everyone being reevaluated if we don't make the playoffs. I think that is almost crossing a line! He basically said "We love Hill and will keep him no matter what happens in the playoff hunt... but he could get fired if we don't make the playoffs(wink)."He said about as much as he could without disrupting the team.

I doesn't matter if we picked Michael Jordan, because we would just throw him on the end of the bench in favor of Pistol Pat. Brian Hill develops talent like Ron Artest teaches anger management.

You do realize if Fran would have played he would be sitting in between JJ and Augustine. He would have been a rookie in the NBA and Hill doesn't play rookies because they never earned there playing time. Whose minutes would Fran have taken? He such a buffoon.

From reading the article it sounded like the author was struggling for the last "struggling" GM and just threw Otis in there. He used drafting of Vasquez as his excuse although none of us think he made that decision.

Sadly, no. Did you watch the game against San Antonio? The game was like 4-on-4 with JJ and his defender being non-existent on our team's offense. Whenever JJ was at the left side where Dwight is posting up, the guy double teaming Dwight was the man of Keith who was at the top of the key. While the man of JJ wasn't there. And sad to say, we don't make extra passes too.
