Optimizing the rotation and evaluating what we need

Recommended Posts

Hi all..been a couple of years since I posted..used to be brownmagic for anyone that remembers

As the season starts, we all know that SVG is going to lock into a rigid rotation soon. The way I see it

PG: Mighty Mouse, Hughes

SG: J-Rich, Reddick, Q-rich

SF: Turk-a-Flu, ???

PF: Big Baby, Ryan Anderson, Earl Clark

C: Superman, Big Baby

Unlike a lot of people, I actually think this team is playoff bound but definitely needs some tweaks. I think we missed the boat on Chauncey Billups since he could have been had for cheap regardless of the warnings he gave people trying to claim him off waivers and would have fit amazingly well in our system. But Kudos to the Clippers' management there--some great maneuvering this off-season.

For me championship teams are really built around defense and we have really screwed that up in the past few years letting guys like C Lee, Pietrus, Stevenson, Barnes get away. We all know offense really isn't our problem, it has always been defense and this has pissed D-12 off a lot in the past.

Looking at this team I think a defensive line up could feature "Hughes", Q-rich, Earl Clark, Howard---the one problem here is Turk-a-flu and I think this is one hole we need to plug right away for short and long run--I don't know what everybody thinks but I think we need a defensive SF---Pietrus just got waived and I think he fits the bill perfectly cost wise and knows our system well and we all know he relished being the go-to defensive guy on the team. The only question here is his health.

Welcome any thoughts and Happy Holidays!

To my understanding, we didn't miss out on Billups because the Clips bid on him before he had a chance to talk to him or make him an offer. Regardless, Chauncey is a boss and I wish we got him.

we ready need a back up big body added to the bench. I agree, we are a playoff team (3-4 in the east: boston will weardown with the schedule and injury to green, the hawks lost Crawford and should have never beat us last year, and we really match up well verse the bulls, but they have better talent.). But it is just not good enough to keep howard. Wing def is a major problem but have a problem on offense with play making. The only way we become dangerous again is if turk and nelson step up big. I think big baby will be great for our defense and energy (bass was good one on one defs but really bad at team def and bball IQ), but again not enough.

we really need philly's AI or the warror's ellis but can we get them with our limited assets. If not we trade Howard for young talent and picks like the hornets did. The best trade so far would be the lakers for andrew, paul (trading paul for younger assets), dumping turk and duhon, and the 2 laker 1st round picks.

something to think about is:

(trade does not show working because some rookie contracts are not in the system yet)

andrew/darko

baby/anderson

derrick william/johnson/q

j rich/jj/q

nelson/larry

with 3 picks in next years draft (counting ours and the 2 laker picks)

Looking at today's game I frankly am shocked by SVG's lack of creativity or willingness to try something different when the chips are down. The rotation was really weird. I think Duhon should be benched for the season, Hughes has better vision, size and can contribute something offensively.

On ball movement I think Jameer did an ok job but I think the insertion of Reddick into the starting line up should be tried--whenever he is on the court his general liveliness and good basketball IQ always seem to improve the team chemistry. He also seems to perform whenever he asked to start. More importantly in the last year or so he has shown a willingness to drive the ball and attack the rim when his shot isn't falling.

This raises the question of what to do with J-Rich. I think he should be moved to SF, he has more quickness than Turkogulu, same three point potency, only thing he gives up is height but the way Turk is playing these days I think he is better off in the second unit or some kind of super sub role.

Dwight had a bad offensive game, looks like he is never going to improve that Freethrow but defensively he was there tonight.

Welcome any thoughts.

All we need to do is get Kirilenko here and have him start at the SF position and have hedo come from the bench.

Jameer/Duhon

J-Rich/von Wafer

Kirilenko/Hedo

Anderson/Big Baby

Howard./Big Baby.

Trade Howard, Duhon and Hedo to New Jersey at the deadline for Brook, Okur and 3 firsts. Trade JJ for another first.

We get 2 top 10 pick next year and we can go for a big and a PG.

Jameer/pick

J-rich/vonwafer/Higgins

Kirilenko/Justin

Anderson/Big baby

Brook/Pick

Not a top elite team but decent. We can later trade j-rich and Big baby for expiring or young players like OJ mayo/Clee etc..
