Offseason Thread Part VII: The Fall of The Lockout

Recommended Posts

Ryno and JJ are (already) solid NBA players.

They are even quite valuable in certain systems.

[not all coaches play the same kind of ball, so -barring elite talent- 'objectivity' regarding a trade is pretty hard]

Josh Smith(notes) hasn’t changed his mind on a future with his hometown Atlanta Hawks: He believes he’s probably run his course with Atlanta. Without an owner committed to making the changes to push this team past its second-round Eastern Conference ceiling, sources said he’d still welcome the team putting him into a trade.

Rival executives say GM Rick Sund has told them everyone is available for deals, although Sund’s most reluctant to move Al Horford(notes). There had been serious discussions between Atlanta and the Minnesota Timberwolves for Smith around the NBA draft, but they never materialized.

Despite getting Howard, that's a very poor trade for LA

Not at all, that is a poor trade for US. We get stuck with an injury prone Bynum who has a bad attitude and to top it off he is a FA after next year. So if we want to keep him, we'll have to pony up big bucks. Not to mention we are stuck with bad contracts of aging players such as Gasol and Odom.

IMO we go after Joe Johnson and Williams simply bc we werent a awful team last yr we just couldnt create on the wing. Turk JJ Anderson and Orton for Johnson and Williams is a even deal. Sure we take on a boatload of salary but the pieces we are giving up we could replace fairly easy (Turk=TMac Anderson=Harper JJ=Mike Miller). The most important thing is with Gil reconstructing we wouldnt have to Amnesty anyone allowing us to ditch Joe down the road and putting us back in the hunt for a ring this season with some additions like a backup C MLE on Foster Vet min on Battie Tmac and J.Kapono

Gil/Nelson/Duhon

Johnson/Tmac/Liggins

Williams/Q.Rich/Kapono

Bass/Clark/Harper

Howard/Foster/Battie

Gilbert for Joe Johnson is the only thing that would interest Atlanta because they could amnest his shorter contract and save money quicker.

You can't amnesty a player you trade for.

Joe Johnson and D12 compliment each other perfectly with the inside outside game. You subtract JJ Anderson and Turk and Add Joe to what we had last season and we go all the way. His contract sucks but thats covered by the amnesty plus playing here he wouldnt have to play heavy mins with our guard rotation

But you can stretch players which is even better bc Turks deal could be stretched out over 7yrs i believe (double the yrs of the contract plus 1)

I am not salary cap expert nor an expert on all this new rules (Amnesty, etc) so I do my best not to talk about it...Some people around here should be doing the same.
