jec 427 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 According to the Best Sportswriter In The Business™ , Dwight only occasionally gives a sh1t and pads his stats unlike Rose! http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/110401&sportCat=nba DERP So does that mean Rose does fancy crossovers that lead to nothing and ultimately wastes possessions because "it's cool"? Miller4Prez66 545 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 That is the most retarded thing I have read in a long long time. I don't ever remember Dwight "not giving a ****." The whole blocking the ball out of bounds crap is so overstated too. What is he supposed to do? It's incredibly hard to block a shot and pull it down while leaping in the air, we've seen Dwight do it a few times but it's rare. If he blocked a shot and tried to save it in bounds, there is a possiblity he could be throwing it at the opposing team's player and possibly give them an open look. You're really nitpicking for reasons to not give someone MVP if you're whining about blocking the ball out of bounds.

Its no reason to not give him the MVP, but to be fair, if he can do it then he should try every game to gain possession from the block. Swatting into the stands does nothing other than gives them the ball back. Yeah the ball didn't hit the rim or get close, but its not entirely necessary to smash it away.

A forceful block has a psychological effect on the opposing team which can make guys hesitate and force them into taking worse shots. How this isn't obvious is baffling to me. 1
Sabian Jackson 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2011 This is incorrect. A forceful block has a psychological effect on the opposing team which can make guys hesitate and force them into taking worse shots. How this isn't obvious is baffling to me. Because there is no guarantee this happens. Blocking it and gaining possession has a clear and obvious result, blocking it and giving it back to the other team has a perceived result. Sabian Jackson 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2011 *******BEGIN TRANSMISSION******* What percentage of blocked shots do you think a defensive player could realistically block and gain possession of? Give us a number. *******END TRANSMISSION******* I'm not referring to him blocking it and catching it all by himself, but as I said, slapping away out of bounds doesn't serve a measurable or guaranteed result. There are times when he has blocked it so easily, I just wonder to myself why he bothers giving it right back to the other team when realistically, he probably could catch them. This also becomes pointless if the shot itself is really bad, and probably wasn't going in anyway. I also said its no reason why it should count against him in the MVP race, so I'm not really sure why I'm getting negative rep when I'm just making an observation. An observation that serves as more praise than anything, because I believe he can do more regularly than he has done.

Also, since when did you give a crap what I thought?
Trey Time 186 Report post Posted April 3, 2011 If Dwight went Ed Reed on people and just caught the ball they would call goaltending every time, even if it is a clear block. To put it even further, they might call it a goaltend even if LeBron did it. That ref might get fired the next day as well.
