It's gonna be great once Barnes signs for the BAE.

The key is not what our payroll will be the year he can opt out but the payroll flexibility we have to make upgrades the season before the summer he can opt out.

as it stands w/out trades

2010/2011: $93M + around $20M in penalty)

= $113 Million payroll + 2 low roster spots to fill

2011/2012: $95M + around $25M in penalty)

*team opt VC ($18M) and Ryan ($2M)

*player opt Pietrus ($5M)

**This is the last season with Dwight under contract.

The cap is $59M and tax $70M this year so in the 11/12 we will be over the cap and tax penalty. So we will have the MLE and maybe the BAE to fill possibly 3-5 positions in hopes of staying competitive enough for Dwight to stay.

The only way we'll be able to make any significant moves will be through trades anyways, it's not like being barely below the luxury tax or a million or two over it will make it easier for us to get an impact player.

Having all that cap space sure hurt Miami this summer. I bet they wish they upgraded last year.

yep your right. The Carter contract has to be traded no matter what or we lose $18M worth of player upgrades.

Absolutely. Carter and Gortat are big trade pieces with big contracts. Lewis is definitely hard to move, but his HUGE expiring will also be another big trade piece. I think at this point, it's not so much about how much we are deep in tax (well, it is somewhat for the guy paying it), but signing solid players that are easy to move.
