EnFuego 1 Report post Posted March 19, 2010 Why don't you post the picture of the three guys that do a good job. That's about it. With all the video analisys of each game, I'm surprised someone has not compiled true ref stats. I little rewind action can allow you to quantify bad calls. Divided by games refed, then you have some kind of measurement by which you can rank them. Yeah, I know it's got holes in it (do you charge all refs working a game for a missed call or just the one that's closest?), but the league needs it. The NBA should grow some pelotas and publish ref stats. They have the worst officiating of any major sport and are the proud owners of a ref convicted for gambling related activities. I know, it's a hard job to make the call in real time, but statistical measuements of performance are a part of life. If they have them, publish them, if they don't, get started on it. And I'm not crying about the Magic either. I think NBA officiating is poor for all teams.

I'm going to bet that they have their own internal perspective and controls when it comes to these kinds of figures. Heck, they review every single technical foul called in the NBA, whether just or unjust. And after this scandal with Vegas, I would think they'd be stupid NOT to do what you are suggesting. But then the real question becomes, will the NBA ever share any of this info? not a fat chance. Why the league [or anyone] would willingly self-incriminate themselves is a no-brainer. Naturally, this responsibility would be the media's, but we all know ESPN is the worldwide monopoly of sports. So it is literally up to US to do this sort of thing. I personally would love to do something like this. But it doesn't pay the bills...

They have the worst officiating of any major sport and are the proud owners of a ref convicted for gambling related activities good idea, About checking who made the call, are refs wearing microphones ? IF not give them, you will hear who blow the whistle, by looking at video you can see who made the call when they consult things in most times (like charge and looking at each other) and from their audio feedback. But watch out, only for jumping with this idea you can get banned for life from all nba arenas as a penalty Seriously that would be great stat but NBA doesn't want it. Refs doesn't want it, they would have to assess their own colleagues work who can take revange later (I assumed other referees would have to check the tapes for these mistakes). About worst officiating in USA major sports I don't know, don't watch hockey and baseball at all, football not much but in basketball things goes faster, borderline for fouls and making calls is much smaller, isn't it ? BTW if you look worldwide officiating in soccer is worse and it's easier for just one call in any moment of the game to change it all. About gambling and corruption abusses you can't even compare. SmackDaddy 30 Report post Posted March 19, 2010 What I would like to see is a video comparison of officiating with side by side footage of what is considered a foul in one cicumstance while not being a foul in a second circumstance. Last night there were multiple opportunities that would qualify to make the cut. Example: Dwight getting raked accross the arms by three separate players and a Heat fan simultaneously, while also receiving a leg-drop (Hulk Hogan style) by Jermaine O'neal from the top of the basket stanchion - not a foul. Dwade getting blown to the ground when the A/C in the Arena turns on without a Magic player within 10 feet - an infraction that prompts all three officials, and Donaghey from his living room, to blow their whistles. Amen. I say this to myself everytime I watch an NBA game. LeBron can literally barrell through guys, Wade can fall to the ground being touched by nobody, and Kobe can do a fancy move and be looked at the wrong way and it's an automatic and 1. Dwight gets pushed, shoved, scraped, punched, and smacked and I'd say only gets the call about 60% of the time.
