Well, it's nice that Clippers shooting guard Corey Maggette apparently wants to return to Orlando, where he started his career. He could become an unresticted free agent today.

The reality is that the Magic can't afford him; their free-agent game-plan is to put some relatively inexpensive pieces around Dwight Howard.

The Magic have all their money tied up in five players: Howard, Rashard Lewis, Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu and Tony Battie. They are rummaging through the bargain bin now to find some serviceable pieces and to fill out the roster.

GM Otis Smith used the word "fiscal responsibility" the other day when talking about free agents.

Concentrate more on these sort of names for the Magic in free agency: PG/SG Keyon Dooling, PG Chris Duhon, guard/forward Mikael Pietrus, point guard Jason Williams, shooting guard Jarvis Hayes and PG/SG Juan Dixon.

Only rumors right now...

In the same article, they suggest that the Magic would likely split the MLE to land two players.

If this is true, they could put Pietrus out of this list...

Fiscal responsibility would seem to be getting Maggette at close to what he makes now rather than the pay raise you will have to give Turk this next offseason or lose him for nothing.

Once you have Corey you can look at moving Turk for another piece that can actually help you rather than Jarvis Hayes or Juan Dixon, seriouly what the heck would we want one of those guys for?

Well if this is what Shmitz is reporting and has heard through his contacts......It can only mean one thing... We are signing Corey Maggette!!!!!

We all know the type of inside info Shmitz gets... and that is wrong info...lol

Thanks Brian for clearing this up for us....

I don't think Otis is making any trades, so it really wouldn't make sense to bring in Maggette. We'd have 4 sgs on the team.
