Melo throws down an alley-oop and makes a tough layup for his 18th point forcing Van Gundy to call a timeout with just under five minutes remaining in the first half and the Magic trailing 42-40. Jameer Nelson ties up the ballgame finishing a layup and follows the next possession with one more to give the Magic a two point lead. The teams trade baskets as Brian Cook scores his 10th point and Martin his 12th to tie up the ballgame at 46 with 2:42 left in the second period. Howard gets pushed by Martin and Martin pleads his case resulting in a technical plus a foul sending Howard to the line for two. Dooling cans the technical free-throw but Howard is unable to make either of his as we head under a minute with the ballgame tied at 48. The half ends with the teams dead-locked at 48.
